90s dodge + cheep turbo + mitsu v6 = fun time

soo a whileeee back i posted in here asking if my little 93 duster v6 could run with my friends 95 v6 stang. i was told i wouldnt stand a chance.... well i walked him and eventually i learned that v6 mustangs were slow and that it was nothing to be happy about. But it did get me into my car more, eventually i got the urge to turbocharge it and hopefully run with the "fast cars" with my pos 90s car.



I started with the little things, supporting mods.

- 3inch magnaflow exhaust
- ported intake plenum
- 52mm throttle body from junkyard van (proven 5-8hp, straight from the junkyard
- custom intake plenum spacers
- ac delete
- msd coil
- walbro 255
- 36# injectors



you know, the little things.

Then i worked toward getting the car to at least handle decently without spending much cash. I got ahold of some new struts and shocks along with some shelby coil springs. Paired that with a 1g neon strut tower bar and welding (boxing) in my track bar and solid motor mounts. This new setup handled well compared to stock.

I then got ahold of kmperformance and had my turbo manifold fabbed up. Once that was delivered i orderd a cheep cx racing turbo. this turbo was run by a fellow member from the forums i was on and he had success.. so i took a gamble and it worked out I also got a fmic and 3inch piping.. 2.5 would have been fine but 3inch was a few bucks more and it works, so who cares.








The car is tuned by me with megasquirt II. i dont have cash to hit the dyno and get something perfect. around town cruising is easy to dial in but WOT tuning is somewhat tricking to find a good spot to go blasting in 3rd gear. 8psi made 300whp on kmperformance's car but they had ported heads and i do not. I am currently running 10psi and have room to grow. the weak link on these motors is the ring gaps. from the factory they are very small and tend to butt against each other at high cyl. pressure and ruin pistons. With regapped rings and e85, 500hp is not out the question with the proper turbo and injectors.

i still have some things to work out. I should have pulled harder than i did against this subi. He "estimates" between 240-260awhp. He has an exhaust, 18psi on the stock turbo and a custom tune that he claims tapers to 10psi at 5000rpms and higher

i had a boost leak and ran 13:1 afr during the video.. i caught him eventually but if im anywhere near 300whp like i should be, i would have had him alot sooner. Makes me want to hit a dyno to make sure my spark timing is set right

i attended hot rod's drag week this week... everyone had ls1 swaps. So unoriginal.

and the video, no not really. it just shows that ive made progress by being able to catch a subi at 125ish when im the one with the aerodynamic retarded shell. But i should have had him much earlier.

the phone, yes.

Original or not, they're a relativity small light package that makes a ton of horsepower and torque, all of which is obtainable easily, sort of a drag racers requirement.

my tune is done by me, his was done by a "pro" so thats another thing to take into account plus various other things that should have been taken care of before i raced it. now that winter is here i can slow down and take care of the things that matter instead of worrying about having it together for the next race.

i completely agree. It just got old after the 2nd day when you saw another nice car, look under the hood and its got an ls in it. Im not going for sheer power here.. i want something people dont expect.

thanks, thats the whole point. My car dosnt look nice on the outside, so being able to jump the gun on a newer mustang or something of the sort and completely pull away is fun. Nothing better than the look on the stang's owner's girlfriend's face. "honney, why did you just lose to a red pos?"

I raced a 6g72 offroad last year, overheated it for about 20 mins with no coolant just to finish the race and the motor still runs great.

Was in the process of turbocharging it also until i started on a whole new project.

yeah they can take a good beating. 3sx took theirs and drove it around and hit the rev limiter with no coolant or oil and it still should have ran after they removed a chuck from the girdle that was preventing the crank from turning.

LOL i hope you dont mind having a difficult time retiming the engine

ive done it without pulling the pully off but it can be a pita!


i ordered a belt that should let me run without my PS pump. once that gets in i can drive the car again. im still waiting on my fmic kit to come in and once that is installed ill get it aligned. hopefully videos and pictures to come along with improvements in performance. havnt run my new spark map yet and im dying to know if it helps

street tuning ftl when it comes to spark map..


also thinking about manual steering rack
