The aurora thread to end all aurora threads
If you want to get it done. I'll tell you where in the united states. It's not that expensive if done in large batches. The fluid while doing it is discarded after each use. The pieces have to be in constant movement so a tooling fee is required. The process is called physical vapor deposition (PVD). The company that will do it for us is called ion bond. All the pieces have to be chrome plated or nickle plated or stainless steel.
Give them a call and set it up. I had some sample pieces done a few years ago. It can be done and with 100% success rate.
If someone gets a batch going please let me know.

PVD doesn't use a bath. It uses an expensive vacuum chamber and vaporized material... To my knowledge true aurora is titanium that has been vaporized onto aluminum polished and then anodized in a fashion that provides inconstant coloring throughout the coating.
This seems to be the "oil slick" effect that you speak.
Still looks cool I've done it by accident, it looked cool On like half the part an the other side looked like dooodoo.

Trust me this is the same aurora finish that planet eclipse used with the orginal aurora guns. I used to own a aurora cocker when I got my pieces in I compared it to them. It is the same process. No titanium only chrome or nickle plate this is why the auroras were bad about chipping.
If you don't trust me just do a search for my name with aurora in it. I have done more threads on this topic than any other person. If y'all want I can get you a contact at ion bond.

No not really
Go here. http://www.tanury.com/
Look at PVD samples and the titanium. It exactly what the paintball community wants. I don't know if they will work with us though.

so setting the semantics aside, a reliable place to contact that is STILL in business has been posted. This will eliminate almost all of the Aurora threads as long as this one doesn't get deleted. It sucks I don't have my Geo2 anymore, I would be PMing to get a group together. Just an FYI, the last thread that was organizing a group to get together and get everything done in Aurora was deleted because we didn't keep the organizing to PMs or emails. Keep it legit. If I pick up a 2.1 or a limited G6R, I'll be looking at getting this done and the name of that company would be great to be able to find.

I think with all resourced posted, including cutstep's,
should be sufficient,
somewhere to have it done and the background of it.

I was in contact with a company last year who does the aurora finish. They quoted me $450 for the entire marker, however, after giving me the quote they stopped returning emails/calls.
I am about to have it anodized, however, if I could get it aurora'd I would.
Quote:
We have done this before... the price is $450. The lead time can be extensive, since the process involves several steps. We cannot guarantee the outcome of the function of the piece, only the decorative finish we've applied.
Generally there is no issue, but we like to fully disclose our policy.
Thanks,
-John

The more people who get in on it, the cheaper it will be. One person needs to step up and contact the company and be the one everyone pm's. Keep it all to pm before this thread gets deleted too.

After making some phone calls, it seems they are a bit perturbed when stating a request is for personal use vs production. They immediately referred me to another company who can handle personal requests. Before I got off the phone with them, I inquired how many pieces would be required to fullfill a "production" order - they said they would have someone call me back.
In the meantime, I spoke with this other company they referred me to for "personal" requests. After some inquiry, it seems that this smaller company is partners with the bigger company. The smaller company does the intitial prep and possibly plating and then they send it to the bigger company. The smaller company didn't have a clue as to what the finish aurora titanium was. When I stated it was a finish offered on the bigger company's website, they said that it could be done. I was then instructed to fill out a request quote form on their website... but I am going to wait and see what the bigger company's minimum number of pieces is for their production order is.
Apologies for not using company names. Trying to stay off the radar via google searches.
Stay tuned.

I have acquired all of the pertinent information and I am looking for mature adults who would like to participate in an order. Spots are limited.
Once again, please be serious about getting your favorite marker aurora'ed and do not beat around the bush with nonsense projects. Please also refrain from explaining how you are only 3 mommy allowances away from having sufficient funds.
I'm looking to do this in about 1-2 months.
Thanks,
-Trevor
