Totally understandable. This is the time when you need to prove them you are wise with your money when joining a luxury sport.
We have the largest Buy/Sell/Trade Marketplace for paintball in the world here.
As an Example: I bought a DM8 last year for $275. I lubed it and it worked, then sold it a month later for $420. I used that money to buy my dream shocker for $300 and 2 Proflexes at $50 each (double strapped and whatnot) and a revvy at $20. That covered my new mask, and some spare gear to loan out to my dad for when he takes me paintballing.
Things like that are nice because
A. you have backups
B. You have more cool stuff and you spent less of YOUR initial investment money on it
and
C. You can loan it out to your dad, in addition to buying it for him, which shows you're willing to give back for the money that they will be putting into it (driving money, admission, air, paint, etc)
And for the pants note: The pair I have now is a Like New pair of Hybrid Contract Killer Edition Playing pants from 2008. New they were $124.99 (correct me if I'm wrong). I bought them 10 months ago for $25. yeah it was used, but 2 cycles through the wash with the rest of your clothes, on cold, with extended rinse and spin cycle, and it looks brand new to the point you'd think you just pulled it off the shelf right after it's been stocked.
