Coming 2012!! 5 Man Regional UWL Series!
I have been working with Tom for about 3 months on this. We both feel it is a great way to get more player to see just how fun the UWL format is to play.
One of the problems with the UWL is that it's hard for people to just jump in and round up 12 players ect. So we are going to offer this 5 man series so teams can play and see just how awesome the UWL is. Then we might see 2 5 man teams join up to play 10 man.
There is a ton of work that has gone into this and even more to get it done. I am very excited to be doing this in 2012! I feel that 2012 is the year that the UWL grows and gets very big.
The 5 man series will work like this:
2 10 min halves
7 players on a roster
No Pro's unless there is a Pro division at one of the regionals (maybe 1 or 2)
Heavy gunner will be in PSP mode and there will be a BPS cap
No rocket launchers
4 Infantry will be semi-auto 10BPS cap or Auto-cockers, Mags ect
Scout is a 5 sec start not a 10 due to a little small field size
The hooch will be worth points only no respawns
If you lose the field choice you will get 1 body respan for your first player that is shot
We will be doing 10 or 12 events in 2012 there will be a series champion and there is something special for the series champions.
I am sure there will be tons of questions I will do my best to answer them, please be patient with us as we still have a few things to finish up.
We will be doing these events in Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska, We are also looking into fields in Iowa and Oklahoma.
I feel this will be a great way to get new players into the UWL and who knows what 2013 will hold for 5 man regioanl series.
Have questions? Please PM me or post here.
It is looking like entry fee will be $250 per team and paint will be $45 and $50 per case.

I am sure it does. The first UWL National 10 man event in 2012 is on the west coast.

This sounds badass. UWL is an awesome format to play and the five-man format will make it a lot easier to drop teams in it and go play. I will no doubt be at the Nebraska event in some capacity (with a camera or with a marker) for sure this year.
I have a hard time believing there is such thing as "too much" UWL action.

Field size, I'm assuming you guys are going to pretty much cut the field in half, and perhaps only have 1 swing base to fight over?
Will this be the same day as the main UWL event?
I know when the sppl did the 5 man thing the same day as the main sppl event, it had a hand full of teams trying it out. I think the lower turnout might have been due to most of the player pool was draw into the main 10-15 man teams event.
Sounds good, and very interesting.... keep up the thinking UWL.

We do not want to make it speedball in the woods so the fields will be something like 250/300 long and 180 to 220 ish wide give or take.
These will not be done with the 10 mans these are one day stand alone events.
These events are to give players/teams a feel for the UWL before trying to round up 12 players and making the jump into 10 man.

Due to the low entry fee but still having about the same cost to run one of these events as a 10 man event the 5 mans will be event paint only. Or we would have to make the entry fee really high and we do not want to do that. Tom and I talked last night and we feel that in the 5 man format that teams are not going to really shoot much paint. We think with a 12 team max per event that the teams will not even shoot a skid of paint and well that is not much at all for 12 teams.

This sounds good, maybe we can give some of the larger teams around here who only have a handful of players who are committed and a bunch of "wait and see" players an opportunity to see without waiting.

interesting and a good thought. We actually were talking about this as a team a few months back (legitimizing the UWL more by using qualifiers).
perhaps you could format the smaller ones into more localized regional events, say maybe 2 or 3 events per region?
If you did it that way you could then make it so that the top 2 five man teams would get free entry into their respective areas UWL main event, helping to feed/grow the main events.
The 2 5 man teams could have the option to merge together to form a team, or field enough people from their own groups to play in the 10 man UWL.
A prize that doesn't technnically "cost" the league anything and provides substantial savings to the player is always a good thing! Plus it's helping to keep teams active in the league by allowing them to hit more events!
I was even thinking it'd be a good idea to start doing that at the actual UWL events as well. Why can't we have it so that the winning UWL team from each bracket (pro/open,tac) gets free entry to the next UWL event? It saves a team a good chunk of money, promotes growth to the league, gives players a tangible reward of sorts, and once again doesn't "cost" anything to the league.
granted you lose out on one or 2 teams' entry fee to the next event, but at the same time they may/may not have been able to make it without winning free entry so you can't really count that as a locked net gain anyways.

That is another way we are hoping the 5 man will help.
Letting players see how much fun the format is and then people can start to get an idea of just how crazy and fun the 10 man is and maybe this will help teams be able to round up all of enough of their players to have a 10 man team.
The 5 man is here to help us grow 10 man teams for the future and to show players/teams just how awesome the UWL is.

This si stuff you would need to email to Tom. This thread is just about the 5 man stuff ect. Most of what you have posted is a Tom type talk. I am not able to help you with any of this. I am sorry just not my area to speak on.

For those of you that have been to events that I have put on or set up in the past know how I like them to look and feel and the 5 mans will be the same way. Maybe PennerPics.com could post a few pics of how I like my events to look.
