If we can't merge then we'll just steal every one elses format!!

yea so this...

Quote:
NPPL, announces both 7 Man & X Ball divisional play for 2012

The NPPL is proud to give 2012 tournament teams a choice by offering both the Traditional 7 man Capture the Flag format and the Millennium Series format which includes Race to 5, Race to 4 and Race to 2. The following 8 divisions will be offered by NPPL for the 2012 season.

The NPPL Professional and Semi Pro 7 Man Divisions:
Professional - 7 man race to 5 Format.
Semi Pro/ D1 - 7 man race to 4 Format.
The NPPL 7 Man Divisions:
D2 - 7 man Capture Flag Traditional
D3 - 7 man Capture Flag Traditional
D4 - 7 man Capture Flag Traditional
NPPL race to 5-Man Divisions:
D2 - 5 man race to 4 (Millennium)
D3 - 5 man race to 4 (Millennium)
D4 - 5 man race to 2 (Millennium)

The only changes to the Millennium format rules will be no coaching or ramping. Instead the Rate of Fire (ROF) will be Semi Automatic 15 Balls Per Second (BPS)
I am a bit confused as to what they were going for with not giving d2/3 seven man the M race to rules. How do you go from say d3 millenium to traditional d2 seven man to d1 race to?? They should have given us like race to 2 atleast, why single out 2 divisions?

I agree. Guess the NPPL owners didn't have too much confidence in their format.

Well as far as format goes we have been trying to change to race to for at least 2 years.

Just the more I think about it the less it makes sense... the two leagues say they may merge to appease sponsors, then decide to do MORE events.. to what? piss off the sponsors? force sponsors and teams to pick sides?

I get the feeling either the leagues blamed the sponsors to appease the masses without making it look like someones brand had failed. That or the two leagues are just prepairing for a potentiol merge in 2012 and are secretly working together to force teams and sponsors to decide what they want more, take some of the guess work out of what a merged league should be like.

That said feelings are not fact so take it with a grain of salt.

The way I see it is they want sponsors and teams to pick a league. NPPL offering the PSP format seems like a downright silly way to do it, however.

Format's not the driver fo a merged league. Finances are.

I guess one way to look at it is it's clear that the nppl was ready to adjust their game to accomodate the psp a bit, but maybe the psp wanted more of the pie than the nppl wanted give up?

I see this as the NPPL admitting that the PSP has the better format, but the people running the league didn't want to concede and let the PSP take over. Egos.

Also, I'm guessing that RaceTo was never trademarked by the PSP (or couldn't be). Now the NPPL is using that term as well, although not styled the same way.

I don't see any of this as them setting things up to merge, but more as a battle over teams/sponsors.

This for sure. I can tell you that in our talks with potential sponsors for 2012 since the merger collapse we are definitely being pushed towards playing one of the leagues over the other.

It isn't really RaceTo, I wish they'd change it. Sort of misleading.

It's like PSP 5 man. Your match is spread out over a certain time, along with many others. Your points aren't consecutive.

Basically it's the same as NCPA Div AA -- Race to but you're not racing because you'll have a match, wait however long while other teams play eachother..then go back and play another team (maybe not even the second game to that previous team you just played..may be a whole new team you're 'racing') then eventually make your way back to that initial team.

Like the above poster said, anything but a race to.

I think its a bit silly, especially if there is no merger. Its one thing for them to have two leagues but changing up the format every few years it seems, is a ridiculous. PSP for the win I say.

One of the things I like most about XBall is the consecutive, 5 man is kind of a pain. I hate having to wait that long between points.

Thats why I would prefer PSP race-to over NPPL. I loved 7 man, but I hated waiting half the day away in between games. And this is going to change that, nor pick up the speed of the games that make xball exciting. I hope this blows up in the NPPLs face and the PSP is forced to rescue and force a merger upon them. This is just flat out ludicrous in a time when there needs to be unity in the industry

I just don't understand how this will work on the pro level. Is time limit gonna be an hour? If it's 20-30 minutes it's not like you're gonna see a lot of 5-4 games more like 3-1, 3-2 anyway. Also how much time in between points to gear 7 guys back up, because otherwise you'll need huge rosters. It's a shame because I think playing with 7 guys on the field with no coaching really is the most fun paintball to play I just don't see how it'll work with race-to.
Also didn't the nppl run with like two or three fields this past season, how are they gonna stay on schedule with 8 divisions

For sure. I wouldn't wish anything bad on somebody in the paintball industry but PSP needs to just take over already...

In the past race to for us has been one game on then go gear up while one more team plays, turnaround was too quick. Pros did it last year in Vegas and this year hb, maybe in Chicago too. Also last years dc we got stuck with one game on one game off field in seven man and it was intense, Idk how they will schedule this but they have the ability to make it really fast paced.

Jeff and jj - damn not sure if I like your confirmation of a battle royal between leagues, hopefully all this competition drives the players to get excited and play a lot of paintball this season.
