I didn't quite have an SL66, but I did have a Dark Ego (06), and a Gen4 Timmy very close together, time-wise. I liked the Ego's feel a little better, but if I were buying one today, I'd get the Timmy. I know I can continue to get parts for the Timmy, while the 06 and older platform Egos are largely ignored or impossible to get parts for. Both shot great, both were nice guns, but with age becoming a factor, you have to be thinking about replacing things coming up... like a solenoid.

Not to mention the QEV's in the Ego. They cost a fortune to replace because they're no longer made. I saw some in the bst today for $60 a pair! And I've seen them go locally for $25-30 each.

My 2k6 Infamous shot better than my '08 Ego and is actually probably the best shooting gun I've ever owned (although my new Cyborg is close. I'd have to shoot 'em side by side to see for sure). It was just freakishly smooth and very efficient. And like Pump Scout said, they still have a lot of backing for both original and aftermarket parts.

I loved my SL66, it was a tank and shot pretty damn well. Some people in here are giving terrible examples of what it takes to maintain an older ego.

Sure a pair of QEVs might be expensive but you don't have to replace an entire QEV when they go bad, just the diaphragm that costs maybe 2 bucks. The diaphragms don't just go bad either, they last for years.

Alternatively you could re-tap the rammer sleeve for cocker QEVs or plain old barbs in less than an hour. Definitely worth it for how solid the ego is.
