But I would think if i was taking pictures of a say football game and I wanted just the one guy in focus when theres 10 other guys around him, auto-focus can mess that up on you. but for photography it def is up to the photographer.
by no means do i claim to be a professional.. there are selected AF points on a camera. canon's pro series cameras all have cross-type AF points that focus on horizontal and vertical lines in an image. this seperates your foreground and background/in focus, oof objects. servo focus is an autofocus mode that tracks moving objects as they come in and out of your focus plane. picture cameras have servo focus modes as well. photography is a bit different than video.

I couldn't see a person trying to track a moving object/person with manual focus and also adjust zoom and such, especially a person or ball moving at the speed that is hard enough to follow with just your eye. Multi-100,000$ HD camera for broadcasting professional sports > Consumer or pro level DSLR. Their broadcasting cameras are probably much different then anything any of us have ever, or will ever, use.

the beast pedestal cameras are totally different than dslr's. The depth of field is way different on the ped cameras which makes it somewhat easier to catch your focus while zoom panning or whatever youre doing.

At this point I really don't find you that credible. You know very, very little about camera operation if you think people aren't shooting still photographs with AF.

for editing I use sony vegas pro 10, its expensive but worth it.. easier to learn imo and can use it to edit photos, I find myself using it more with photos then cs5.
