Nikon D4 specs:
16.2 MP
11 fps
100-102,400 native ISO range, expandable to 50 and 204,800
CF + XQD memory card slots! That’s right, the Nikon D4 will have the new Compact Flash XQD memory card slot.
Compatible with the new Nikon WT-5 wireless transmitter
Integrated Ethernet in the camera
Face detection/recognition function that will be working in the viewfinder (maybe some type of a hybrid viewfinder? Nikon had several related patents)
Improved video, I have no other details on that but my guess is 1080p/30/25/24 and 720p/60/30/25/24 similar to the Nikon D800
Uncompressed video out through the HDMI port
Ability to assign the two buttons on the front of the camera to smooth aperture control during video recording
Improved 51 AF points
AF detection range will go down to EV-2.0 (the D3s went to EV -1)
Autofocus system: 9 cross-type sensors that are operational up to f/8

Yup. I'd guess at LEAST $7200. It's made to compete with the 1DX, and that's $6800

I don't think I'd ever be able to justify that much for a body. At least, not yet.

I'll stick with my setup, kthx. Few more lenses would be nice, but I'm learning to make do with what I've got.

Kind of my feeling with the 5D Classic vs a 5DMKII. IDK how much better the high ISO performance is, but on the Classic, ISO 3200 is not bad, and I probably would NEVER use the video function on the MKII

I was thinking about getting a 5D Classing a while down the road to have alongside my 7D, but still. It would probably be so far down the road that the MK III will probably be out, and the MK II would be justifiable instead.

I've owned both. Probably a stop better on the high end. 6400 is comparable to 3200 between the new/old respectively. The screen, menu options, and "newer" feel is the only real difference. I wouldn't have a mkii unless insurance covered it but it's not worth an extra grand for a mkii IMO. IF, big if, it had the focusing system of the 7d then it'd be one of the best cameras you could own. If the mkiii comes out with a 7d type AF then it's well worth the $2499 price. That thing would cover indoor sports like a dream with the ISO performance and a prime lens. I'm hoping that the 1dx shows that it's possible to do that. I'm pretty sure the 5d is seen as a "portrait/video dslr" in their minds since they didn't update the AF on it. Hopefully they do next time.

Yeah, the AF system is pretty much the same from the MKI to the MKII, so to me, it's not really worth it. If the MKII had more focus points, I'd manage to justify it.

Speaking of insurance, who would you guys recommend for insurance? I don't have my gear insured, but I damn well should!

Jimmy has recommended them, they replaced his 1Ds III or something like that after he got some really, really bad water damage to it.

That reminds me, I gotta change my direct deposit to USAA. I remembered that Robs brother works for State Farm, so I shot him a msg to see if he knows someone that would handle photo insurance equipment. I know some people add it to their home owners, or renters insurance, but if you make a claim, they either drop you, or increase your rates astronomically.

Sign up for the PPA.(Professional Photographers Of America)

It's $275 and it includes $15000 of insurance with membership.

I hear that USAA is great with claims, at least on the auto insurance side of things.

Checked them out, $624 annually to cover $14k of owned equipment, with another $5k of rental equipment coverage in case I need it. $5k of mobile and $15k of fixed computer equipment coverage was included at no additional charge.

Not bad I say, but I'm going to look around a bit more before I jump. I've been procrastinating on picking up insurance and I need to get it done.

That's pretty expensive, considering you still have a deductible. If it were a $0 deductible policy, then maybe it would make sense.

edit:
this may also be a problem if your computer is outdated. i'm not sure what all the technical aspects of it are, but some computers won't playback 1080 video with sound. it'll turn out laggy and will be missing the sound. :/
