Definitely take a look at that thread. It helped me when I came back in.
But it really comes down to what you want the marker to do. Primarily speedball or woodsball? A good "speedball gun" will work perfectly for woodsball too, but trying to bring a woodsball gun to speedball can be a huge problem.
Also, do you want electric or mechanical? Easy maintenance? Heavy or Light?
For more help let us know what you want to do.

I wouldn't say "heavy". the only "heavy" marker I can think of is the VM-68.... Which Ironically is supposedly the only marker which really has "kick" as well...
That is, if you ignore Planet Eclipse Yeah, I'm a hater.

Yea, but some markers have more weight than others. Some people prefer a little more weight because they feel it gives them a little more stability. Honestly, I dont see the point in worrying much about the weight of the gun if it does what you want it to do, but the people that do care about it put it as the top priority when selecting a marker.

lol. major money.
One thing about paintball. If you don't has god powarz like Ollie lang, you will not be making "Major Money"...
At least not in the next 10 or 15 years...
The matter of the fact is, otherwise, that paintball is mainly for kicks. You play to enjoy. Tournaments are to let you test your skills and make comrades with other people so you can come and play more often. It's smart, and I love it. That's why I'm still playing.
I totally see what you;re getting at echmo. I can't stand new guns, they're too light for me. There's like no substance, I feel that if I accidentally let it alone, it may begin to float away :/
'Tis why I love angels and shockers so. And by all means, they're damn light guns for my standards...
When selecting a gun, you need to know that you can't get everything you want out of it, so you have to make a "top 3" list.
Like my top 3 is this:
Comfort
Efficiency
Consistency
Aesthetics are very important to me as well, which is why I buy matching colored guns and only keep Private Label milled markers, so they can be nice and unique and refreshing to look at/use.
Also: If you want a smooth and light MECHANICAL gun. I can offer these two.
There's a guy on here "hill160881" ( http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=3647839) who made this super simple efficiency mod for mags, which really puts them up in the super-highend mech zone if you ask me.
Pick up a vertical feed mag of some sort, like one with RT and a ULE body and send it to Hill for the modification and bam. You have a rippingly sweet and efficient mag. Super lightweight, super small and lowkey, and they shoot SUPER smooth.
Oh man, and if you found a Titanium Hurricane valve.... O_O
A simple way to go is this, though:
Azodin Kaos
Maddmann rocket valve for spyders -or- 11/16ths
maddmann spyder spring set
That's a good shooter for like.. what? $118?
Drop a Lurker Eigenbarrel ($42 shipped) on that ( www.lurkerpaintball.com) and maybe even a nice regulator like a Bob Long Torpedo ($25 used, probably the... 5th best regulator you can possibly find on the used market)
Woah. Under $200 for a sweet shooting mech gun. BTW, with the springs, it's medium valve spring paired with a light mainspring.

i get where you are coming from, but we are competitive between other teams around here so being 15 and winning a match against another team and making $400 is pretty good for us..
But you have preferences on guns i dhould look at and try out before comitting completely

If you want a purely mechanical marker, take a look at the ICE Epic. I havent shot one personally, but I havent heard anyone complain about them. If someone else knows a little more about them, please speak up, I dont want to give bad info here.

Oh god, I want the Epic DV8 so bad it;s ridiculous. I emailed them like 5 times in the past month seeing if they could put one up for me. Can't tell since the site hasn't been updated for 2 years.

Definitely. Here's a thread with some info on them: http://www.pbnation.com/showthread.php?t=3655911
EDIT: crap, already posted it... well yeah, refer to the thread info on spool valves, poppet valves, etc (farther down).
Remember, they all function differently. They will all feel and sound differently.

dude.
use your brain a little bit to decide.
A shocker is longer, heavier, but much more versatile and some of the replacement parts are much cheaper. They can also be made to be much mroe efficient.
A 2011 Reflex Rail is much more compact and lightweight, but it's not as efficient or consistent as a shocker could be. That being said, out of the box, I would take a reflex over a shocker. Not as comfy IMO, but performance-wise, you actually get more than what you pay for on that.
Now there are other markers. Thought of MacDev? a Used droid is an awesome, efficient, consistent and reliable choice. They're also low profile with a nice trigger, great spacing, and a phenomenal bolt engine.
Downsides to the droid are pricey replacement parts and that the bolt engine is quite tricky to take apart and lubricate casually.
Now there are poppets that shoot like spools. Angels are ****ing amazing. Period. I cannot say enough good things about angels, especially the 06 speed and newer models. Very durable, reliable, low key, comfy and efficient markers. Their resale value is quite low, so it's fantastic for a baller on a budget. An A1 Fly can be your end all-be all marker.
Then there are marqs. to maintain it is a pain in the ***, but it only needs to be done monthly, maybe every other month if you play less often. Very efficient, consistent and smooth. Not to mention snappy and consistent. Kind of top-heavy, though. Frame feels good, but doesn't sit so awesomefully on the marq6/7/darq. Works great for Closers, though.

I'm having a bit of a hard time following this thread.
The OP is asking for a mech gun and almost all reccomendations are for electros.
Mech:
I'd get a Cocker.
Electro: I like my Angel A1 of the few electros that I've had( B2K, ICD Freestyle 8, Timmy Gen 3 Lasoya, PM6, Spyder & Piranha sear trippers )
I usually play pump and my main gun is a CCM S6 .
Pagela, are you in the US?

I picked a used DM9 for $400 in the BST here. You can get a good gun in that price range if you are patient and pay attention to the sales going on.
