Position plays a bigger role in how long your setup is not what setup you choose. example- back players tend to like a more comfortable, longer setup and front/mid players tend to like a shorter more compact setup.

This. Anymore the length of the setup is determined by the tank. As in fronts often have a smaller tank (which does two things: allows them to play tighter and have a lighter setup) whereas backs often have a larger tank (which also allows them to shoot more).
The only thing I can think of that would make a gun better for one position over the other is some of the whole spool vs poppit debates. Spools tend to be much smother, but less efficient on air, something that would appeal more toward a front player, where poppits are more air friendly which are better for back players.
In general though, with as far as paintball tech has come, a front player would do just fine with a poppit and a back player would be fine with a spool.
