Division 5/6 tournament?

Would anyone be interested in a D5/D6 level tournament? I know a lot of fields put on D4 events, and that's great, but those are definitely not where a fresh team dipping their toes in tournament play are going to be able to do much more than be speed bumps for more regular teams.

Just trying to put together some ideas for the 2015 season early enough to actually make it happen.

D6 covers what's generally known as young guns and beginner, or anyone under 20 APPA points at the start of a season.

The only problem is that sometimes D5 teams play D4 teams there. Some people are scared of D4 for some reason, it has been named as being an issue before.

At the last tourney there were a couple of games where they had D5 and D4 teams playing eachother, the first tourney had a couple like that too.

No D4 teams played D5 teams at the first event to my knowledge. That said, the first event was poorly run. We chose not to continue with the series.

I'd be up for a D5 event. Better than getting sandbagged

The problem with trying to breakdown people into these lower divisions like D4 and D5 is that what if a player regularly grinds in local non APPA tourneys or practices a lot but doesn't play PSP or other APPA affiliated tourneys.

It seems like central WI paintball has really just stagnated. Apoc tried to run 2 3mans last year and were lucky to get 6 teams/event. This year they abandoned it all together after an unsuccessful first attempt. Looking back I remember in 08-11 reffing Stalker tournaments with 8-12 teams every other week. That's right we ran trophy dashes twice a month and never had a problem with turnout.

So my questions are:

Where did everyone go?
How do we get them back?
How do we get new players in the mix?

The last one seems answered by this thread. But, maybe they just aren't out there. Maybe they need an introduction. Maybe fields need to grant discounts (sponsorship) to new players wanting to grow and learn tournament paintball in a more nurturing environment rather than getting knocked down over and over again against D3+ players. This can be done in many ways. Maybe an upfront 100$ to receive the discounts until they complete the designated amount of work needed to be sponsored for that field (reffing, cleaning, etc). Experienced players could teach them while they play against each other. Like a training wheels period.

I've also noticed that many local sponsored teams aren't willing to step in and help grow the next players. They push them away with there "I'm better than you attitude." As far as that goes if it were my field you wouldn't have a sponsorship PERIOD.

Back on topic, this is good idea. I just don't know if there are any players out there who this is meant for. First, they need to come out and play.

Ya, it seems like D4 has turned in to sandbag city over the years. We just need to make the game more affordable somehow....that's truly the main reason of this dry spell here in WI.

I'm going to hold you guys to showing up if we do some low cost level playing field games.

There's a whole page full of ideas I've been cooking up, enough to run probably three seasons and not repeat a theme.

I'm down, as long as it's a reasonable distance from madison. I'd honestly rather shoot ****ty paint at this point, idc if I have to run around bunkering people all day as long as my wallet doesn't get raped.

I'll be meeting with the field owner Thursday about doing some low-cost/high fun events and tournaments. If I can convince him to take a chance on us, I'm going to need all the support I can get! Tell your friends, speak up in here, spread the word to POST IN HERE and chat it up! If we can pull off one, he'll be far more open to doing multiple events, and that's the gateway to bringing low-cost tournaments and events to the players!

Teaser, the first of whatever we wind up doing is likely to be a 3-man on hyperball.

Probably not just 3-man on hyperball, of course. Anyone can do that. There'll be a little twist to it somewhere.

10-man is DEFINITELY not beyond the realm of possibility. Baby steps, though. If we can have a rocking season, maybe we can end with a big 10-man event.
