"legion shocker"

has anyone ever attempted to make this? or is there just too many o-rings to make it work?

Closed bolt? I thought about wxactly that. It would make a Shocker back into a Shocker.

My closed bolt Ions are very similar, but the firing piston is actuated the opposite of these (removing air pressure instead of supplying it).

I know some people have looked at doing these in a Shocker before. Ydna has at least drawings for it, not sure if he ever made one.

I think Andy from zdspb may have made one for himself but said the reason Smart Parts scraped the design was because its rate of fire was max 13bps

They're very similar to the old Nova. Or if you want an open bolt version you can buy PE's Etha.

I know it came from there - by drawings I meant manufacturable CAD drawings, not just the animations. I should have clarified that a bit better.

From the animation I saw of an etha it looked similar with an independent, movable guide. I thought about this a long time ago but wasn't sure of how to channel the air to make the guide move back and forth. I would love to see a marker like this. It would be very nice to have a closed bolt version of the shocker. I wonder if, with proper tuning, making one of these closed bolt would result in better efficiency. Seems like it would.

You're right, they typically did have higher efficiency too. You have to be careful through because blowback can be hard to control if the timing is altered. In the version I'm working on (well, working on and off again) I had to use very small ports in order to limit the bolt's opening speed. It's not a finished marker but I just have a few parts left. I even made a new board so it could operate closed-bolt eye logic.

Amusingly, SP made an open-bolt version of this back in 2002 that was very similar to an Etha. But they (he) only had to make one of them to figure out the elongated-bolt version that was ultimately produced would be more economical and easier to produce.

I built one of those myself in 2005 (called the Culex). It uses a different valve method but the overall layout is identical. It's funny when companies "branch out" and end up producing the same designs I built in my basement with a $400 lathe 6 years ago

16 dynamic orings? Really would not want to have to rebuild that in the middle of a day of play...bet it would shoot great though.

Just shows 2 things. 1. You were years ahead of the curve. 2. If companies wouldn't rush to get their next money maker they could actually take time and get the best marker out to us instead of just trying to make a buck.

It's unfortunate the bolt's motion is coupled to the pressure in the chamber.

Edit: I'm surprised nobody's compared this to the axe yet. (although Nova comparisons have been made)
