Hawk tires are ****. I rode them for 30 seconds and they were constantly slipping. If you don't ride dirt then you can't go wrong with Premium Refuse Resist's, Fit FAF's, or Animal GLH's.

I couldn't stand trying to ride mtb in regular shoes. Too squishy. That, and it feels weird not being connected to my bike.

The vaults are nice, very grippy, and some climbing shoes sink right into the spikes, I love em, and I couldn't be attached to my bike with clipless pedals, a few guys I ride with use them and they crash just because they're clipped in and for whatever reason can't unclip in time
You could have bought a couple dirt bike with that amount of change.
I could have bought alot of different things with that money, but I don't like motorized things so bicycle it was. It's my first proper highend

Nice bike
Leftys can be had for cheap used, the adapter for 'regular' frames is about $80.
$200-$1000 depending on model. NIB 2013 ones are in the $1300 range.

I feel safer, thus faster on platforms, add that ontop of the fact that I can wear any shoe I want and you have the reason why I don't like clipless pedals.
