HD output through Comcast cable box?

So I just moved into a new apartment yesterday, got Comcast Internet and HD TV hooked up because my Uverse wouldn't transfer to the area. I was on the phone with my energy provider the whole time arguing with them about getting my address switched and didn't pay much attention to the installer. He leaves once it's all setup and I realize that my HD TV is hooked up just through a coax cable? I don't even have an HDMI output on this box. All I have is Component out, and USB 2.0. I'm paying for HD, but I don't feel like I'm getting nearly as nice of picture as I should be getting. How would you guys suggest me wiring things up in order to get the best definition I can get?

You have to request an HD box with Comcrap and it will cost you extra.

So I'm assuming if I buy a component cable, all I'll need is to unplug my Antenna Out cable and run the Component cables instead right? Sorry. I had a ****ty TV forever, then got an HDTV once I moved out and have run nothing but HDMI since day one, so I'm unfamiliar with pretty much all else.

If you have a spare set of RCA cables, there's no need to buy more cables, just use those. Nothing particularly special about them aside from the color. Also, there's a slight chance you'll have to find the setting that switches from coax to component, but I doubt that.

Also, make sure the channels you're looking at are supposed to be HD (you probably have duplicates of a bunch of channels with one SD and one HD), and keep in mind that some HD channels are only 720p rather than 1080p (assuming your TV is 1080p). I've had Comcast cable hooked up the way you do (coax from the receiver to the TV) and didn't have any issues getting HD channels.

Yes, but why? I'd just request a new box with an HDMI output. You're paying for it anyway, may as well get it.

95% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference, and most of those remaining 5% would probably already have called and asked for a new one before asking us here

HD channels are in the 600 range in Houston. If you want a box with HDMI on it, take the box you were given to a cable store and get a RNG150 (HD Non-DVR).

Depending on what you unknowingly opted into when you scheduled the install, there could be a nominal price difference each month.

What package did you get?

Holy ****, I remember you. You live around like Humble and do work for Comcast or something, right? Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong person, I think I asked you for help with Comcast not being available in my area a long time ago.

Totally worth bringing back a month old thread for that. Thanks.

oh, right, I forgot how bustling this section is - and how posts on the front page don't span 2 months or anything.
