Recommended web hosting?

I'm needing to change web hosts from my current one to a new US based one. Does anybody have any recommendations for a well priced host with decent support etc?

Cheers

What are you trying to do with your hosting, aside frm the obvious -- serve up a web page -- do you need php, MySQL, Etc..

I use dreamhost, but there are plenty of different options

Just a standard portfolio site using HTML/CSS, no php or anything. All under 10mb. http://www.hodge.co.nz

HostGator is also worth checking out. If you need the absolute basics, they have hosting starting at ~$4/mo., I believe.

We used to run a few test boxes for sites through them, they have issues with fraud and bad security. They were compromised a half dozen times in the two years we used them.

Sounds rough. I personally use DreamHost myself, but I thought I'd offer a cheap solution that wasn't GoDaddy.

From what I have heard from people who had larger issues than mine, they had several people internally who caused much of the havoc.

We use dedicated servers on Dreamhost now and couldn't be happier.

Dreamhost is way overkill for a static site. Go with something like Github pages, Wordpress.com, Amazon S3 websites, Heroku, etc. No way I would pay for a shared hosting plan for a 10MB static site. Just go with something free and spend the $10/year or whatever on DNS.

$5.50 a month over a year when it goes on sale... I don't see how that is overly expensive for anyone.

More importantly. At even $10/mo to host your portfolio and generate income/leads its worth looking legitimate...

Don't do Network Solutions, it has a very bad tech support. My suggestions are either GoDaddy or Hostgator.
