Official ST:T Custom Desk Building Thread v1 - Come Touch Our Wood
In order to save the clutter from the Building/Upgrading thread, we can talk about desk building and such in here instead. Pictures are appreciated!
My old desk wasn't cutting it anymore:
So I decided to start a build inspired by a few members here who've done it over the years. I started with a few sheets of 3/4" MDF and a formica countertop I ordered from cheapo depot.
The countertop is 6.6' long, I think 23.5" wide. I took some measurements, drew up some quick sketches, and got to work. I decided to support the desk with two sets of shelves, one on either side. The left hand side would be wider, and designed to hold my stereo receiver, DirecTV receiver, and PS3. The one on the right would hold my computer. So I got out the circular saw, and router, and went to town.
Here's what I've got so far. All my wood is cut, notches routed, all ready to go. Just awaiting the weather and my schedule to sync up and permit me to assemble it.
I've also got a flush-mounting USB/audio hub, with room to run cables down through the countertop instead of hanging them around back, and some J-channel to route my wires through underneath the desk. I should have it all together by the weekend, and all set to go. Then whenever I get time/money/motivation after that, I'm going to cover the visible MDF surfaces with a light wood-grain formica.

Indeed.
Brought this over from the building/upgrading thread.
Saw it on Lifehacker a while back. This isn't quite what I was talking about but it's pretty cool!
I meant actually having the rear panel connectors embedded into the top of the desk.

If any of you guys end up doing builds, or have done builds, feel free to PM me a picture and I'll make a list with photos in the first post.

Hopefully I'll be doing a complete home office makeover here shortly. I'll post pics of the progress, whenever I start.

I love sketch up. Also, you can search the SU warehouse and find a lot of pre made items, just in case you didn't know.
