yes it does, but he's not at a position in life right now that he can make the committment to the team. We both understand the issues at hand and the departure was agreed upon mutually.

So now that you guys have completed your first (and second) PSP Pro events, which match was your favorite?

Also, I'm sure you've taken some lumps from the other Pros welcoming in the new guys. Are you guys keeping track of who deserves a little extra love next time you shoot them?

Gabe,

It's easy to say the x-factor or Vicious match is my favorite, but truth be told - its the Ironman match. We lost 5-4 but were in the match the whole way and I'd say we even had a decent chance of winning it. Why is this my favorite - there are several reasons:
1 - from a spectator standpoint it was a great match to watch - back and forth with lots of action
2 - We hung with one of the best teams in the league right till the very end - this proves without a doubt that we belong

We're ready to step up and take this to the next level - Sunday paintball.

As for taking names - I don't see it, but I guess I'm not the one getting blasted. But I think our guys are giving it out just as much as they're getting it.

Being pro now, does the team plan on training (non-playing, like gym, running, etc) to stay in shape and improve on movements and such, or does everyone already do that?

P.S. I can tell you have Dave, eating the right foods and what not, keep it up!

Josh,

I think for the most part our players have been doing that all along. My "worst" player for conditioning isn't even my slowest player. We feel that everyone on the team can play multiple points in a row, more if needed.

However, that said - I would like to believe that everyone has stepped up their game, outside their game, in order to put their best effort forward on any given Sunday. If you know what I mean.

In the end this is still a sport that does not earn them any money or salary. They still have to pay for certain things - more then most people realize. It's really an individual choice just how much work they put in after we get off the field. Lucky for me all the players want to be the best they can be and have been working very hard during the week so that the weekends are more about paintball then conditioning now.

Becoming pro got me BACK into the weight room after a three year layoff. I keep thinking of losing to legion as my motivation every rep I take

But i knew I needed to work harder as soon as we decided to make the jump. I think everyone on the team is sooo competitive we just do it automatically cause we know it needs to be done.

But other than that we have always put a premium in being in shape.

Good to hear, my motivation was my shoulder being junk, and wanting to be in the best physical and mental shape I can be in to improve my game to my highest expectations (being able to play pro). Going to the gym and eating right definitely helps.

Paintball is my motivation to staying in shape. Cardio endurance running and improving core strength. Without I'm not sure I would have stuck with it. Got to be in shape for Masters this October.

The mental aspect of this game is integral to success. Do you guys ever get discouraged? And if so, how do you combat it? What do you do to get your head back in the game?

I think this 90% comes down to your teamates. it goes a long way just telling your front guys they will make the far runs and your back players they will hit the guy they are laning for.

This is very true. When someone believes in you it becomes that much easier to believe in yourself, and that much harder to let them down.

When I saw 187 play in D1, I saw variations in playing style. But I saw many games where the team grinded teams down to time. Though in your Pro debut, commentators are considerably taking the Galveston Russian Legion game into account.

What is the team's reaction to commentators saying, "'187 doesn't now how to play defensively.' 'Only plays well aggressively.' Or '187 only knows how to attack.'"?

More generally, is it important for a team to have a playing "style"? A defined "on-the-field" identity?

Thanks for any response,
Mike

Mike, that feild layout in perticular didnt really let teams play off there heels as u saw dynasty and others get into some hard matches by taking the back 5, that being said i feel that playing defensive paintball becomes that much harder at the top level, yes in D1 we were able to take leads and hold them by gunfighting but as u progress thru the ranks ppl get better at digging u out.

I think this combination of things makes it look like we can only play agressive paintball but we were only playing the feild the best way we knew how,

As far as having an on feild identity, its only important that eveyone on the feild is on the same page and as long as ur 5 guys are all on the same game plan for that point u will be ok changing ur identity to match the situation.

To add to that, we are not a naturally aggressive team. We are usually more methodical. This year we did make a point to be more aggressive because we saw at this level you need to take risks to win. We wanted to show that we aren't afraid of the competition at this level and even though we lose a lot we are going to lose because we tried doing something.

When we played D1 we wanted to win each event but the ultimate prize was the Pro spot. I think because of this, the games became low scoring because a lot of teams wanted to be careful to NOT make a mistake and lose their chance to go Pro. We did try to make an effort of not drawing out points but it just happens sometimes.

As far as teams and their style of play, I don't think it's important to have a style of play but you can see that teams do tend to have their own style. We feel from D1 to Pro we have changed how we play and we know we will be able to adapt.
