NEXL Reffing Feedback

Throwing a rock at a hornets' nest here, but...

I'd like feedback on how NEH did reffing the NEXL this year. I'd rather hear about where we can improve and/or what we did that stood out (good or bad) than just that we sucked or we were great.

Any individual criticism would be better sent via PM. I'm not setting up a thread to trash my guys individually.

Please let me know what event you attended and with what team.

Thanks for your help.

Overall I think the event went extremely well. In my opinion all the refs were a little lethargic and hesitant to get in for paint checks and to make calls; however, as the day progressed they all woke up and by the time the championship rounds started the calls were good and consistent. In all honesty I wish they would've hung around to help ref Sunday.

If you look at the entire season...my impression would be inconsistent. Event1 was great, it seemed like everyone was putting in a really good effort to give good consistent reffing....events2,3,4 there were inconsistencies with calls. Pulling penalties for players one point and then the next letting it slide under the radar..stuff of that nature. Sometimes refs were just not even paying attention to what was happening on the fields....BONE was much better, almost as good as event 1. The games were all close and on field 2 at least you could tell the refs were trying to assess situations and do the very best they could. Some points were cluster ****s and you saw refs discussing what happened and enforcing rules. for that

Felt like it was pretty good all year, event 4 was sort of a low point in my mind however. Reffing at BONE was excellent.

Biggest issue all season and last year is the same. Refs aren't using signals.

Pro is that they have been helping us in keeping bunkers clean

Having reffed 7man/5man NEPL for a few years myself, I can appreciate the difficulty of it. There is no such thing as a perfect ref. Even if there were one ref per player on the field, it still wouldn't be enough in some situations. You just can't see everything.

I think the Hurricanes did a good job overall this year. There were some issues here and there, and when they occurred, I brought them up directly with Jeff and they were dealt with. All in all, I'm happy with the job you're doing. Keep it up!

If there were any one thing I'd like to see different next year, it'd be more consistency in pulling penalties. I'd prefer the refs pull more penalties than let anything slide at all (like old hits, hopper hits, etc.). If a player's hit, and it's not their pack, and they're still playing, take one of their buddies with them. It'll force the players and teams to be a lot more careful about how they play, and pay more attention to ensuring they're clean before they walk on the field, which helps them in the long run.

The two events I played over this summer. The reffing was good, I once almost got a flag because the refs did not use the correct hand signals to signal I was out. I spoke to the ref after the point and asked if he could you use the correct hand signals and he understood and apologized I cant ask for more. The reffing was night and day when comparing the NEXL reffing and the NEPL reffing imo.

In regards to every one else's complaint concerning Obvious Hits and Unobvious Hits and throwing that famous yellow flag. Try and read the rule book. It is not just pack hits and it is basically ref's discretion to throw a flag or not also if the ref sees an unobvious hit happen he should not throw a flag.

I think the rule book is very unclear and most players are misinformed when it comes to the rule book and penalties.

Reffing was pretty good at Bone, from your guys. Buckley, and Alfred I think? They seemed very consistant, and made pretty fair calls. From the rest of the staffing it was very inconsistant and down right poor. I only had the chsnce to play on field 1 though, most of your guys were on field 2.
