Anyone remember the Powerlyte Scepter Kit?

I had a Powerlyte Scepter kit back in...2004 or 2005 and I have to say it was pretty darn awesome. The inserts were solid in construction and inserted from the top of the barrel back, not from the end like Freaks did.

Earlier today I was browsing through eBay and I stumbled upon this.

Now I really thought my Scepter kit was the top of the line back then and thought to myself this is my chance to pick up another. But from the pictures, this one looks totally different. The inserts seem to be shiny aluminum when before they were matte colors. And if I remember correctly, the inserts were also longer. I compared it to a friend's freak kit and mine had at least an inch or two on his.

Now I knew Powerlyte has been gone for a while now. But the description says 2012 new? I was just like...huh? It has been years since I've seen anything from Powerlyte and now they have new barrels?

After some intensive Google searches, I figured out Empire either bought Powerlyte or had them sell the design of the Scepter for their Revolver barrel kit (which is also defunct now apparently). A quick comparison of the Revolver kit pictures and the aforementioned Scepter kit seem pretty close. So my question is...did somebody turn the lights at Powerlyte back on? Or did Kee have some leftover stock from Powerlyte laying around?

Can anybody else shed some more light on this subject or just wanna share good memories about Scepter kits and mech autocockers and mags (It was a really sweet kit on my ULE Mag).

If anyone was curious, I got in contact with the seller over the phone and apparently Powerlyte never went out of business (just stopped producing retail items for PB) so they disappeared to the average person. They are trying start selling retail products again, maybe even carbon fiber fronts for Scepter kits.

I was looking online and found this:
http://www.manta.com/c/mm24w2p/powerlyte

So I guess that does mean Powerlyte is still in business and seeing as how the Ebay seller is from North Carolina, Powerlyte's main facilty, I think the seller might be legit.

So I just bought a set from him and will see how it turns out. I'll update when I get the kit and test it out.

I do have a stiffi barrel and a dye ultralite so those are the barrels i'll compare it to when the time comes.

Ragnaarock - Yeah I picked up a 3 insert set (who needs anything bigger than .688 nowadays) from him in the end. If it is anything like the old scepter, you won't be disappointed.

I am just happy to see powerlyte is still kicking, they had some nice products.

I just received my kit today although I went out paintballing before I got it in the mail so I couldn't test it out. I did look the barrel over and compared it to my dye ultralite. The powelyte barrel is about 1-2cm longer than my dye ultralite but it was slightly lighter. I don't have a scale to post actual numbers but the powerlyte did feel slightly lighter. Just by holding it in my hand I can tell the build quality is very good. It doesn't feel like cheap metal and doesn't give the feeling that it will just snap in two like my carbon stiffi. I haven't owned an original powerlyte scepter but, just by looking at pictures the milling of the body is different and the new one has a lot more holes down the length of the barrel. I think the inserts are basically the same but the etching on the side is a bit different. I'll probably post a comparison between my barrels later, probably a lot later since there aren't many PB places in Vermont so I'm playing off a little private shop someone has set up and they only run CO2, not exaclty the kinda stuff you wanna be running through an Automag, Autococker, or Etek 3. Too bad an SP1 isn't autococker threaded

Confused - are the inserts 6" or 7" I thought one of the selling points were longer control bore than Freak? But these don't look like it....
Anyone know the length? (For Sure)

I just measured the .690 insert and it is 4 inches. I'm pretty sure all the other inserts are the same size so I won't bother measuring them all.

looks like a empire revolver kit almost since the control bore length is now shorter.

I remember reading somewhere that Powerlyte was running into some patent/design trouble over their original style Scepter kit (longer inserts) and they had to change it afterwards. The newer style is the same as the Empire Revolver kit.

Empire revolvers and PL's Scepter are the same thing except for the logo on the parts, case and Empire charged more $$. Everything I have read about these kits (new or old) are very positive. From test firing against a freak kit, they out perform the freak. Since PL inserts are unable to move in the back unlike freak inserts, they have similar accuracy to sized backs. I had thought PL had gone out of business and so until just recently was l looking to buy a new freak kit. I think I will get a new PL kit instead. Supposedly they self clean very well too. I have been using an older 7 piece empire kit and it has served me very well, but I would like a new/current kit.

I just bought the 7 piece kit and am anxiously awaiting arrival. The president of powerlyte said the honing process on the 2012 is better than the 2007. Their site might be up and running some time this summer.

the old kit came out first around 2004? and then they switched to shorter backs in 2006ish.. i personally compared the two back in 2007 and in a non scientific test, the longer back was more accurate. still have my old short back version. sold the long ones with a gun.
