Been plateauing hard at 159. Getting harder, but weight has been the same for the past 2 weeks.

So I wanna try a Keto diet for a cut... is there really as much math in this crap as it seems? Im reading over it BB but I don't think I currently even have the tools to execute such a strict looking diet(currently over seas and between px and chow hall it would be difficult). Or should I just go about my business and switch to ketosis when I get home in May? Anyone have some good experience with this?

Bad experience with it? Reasoning behind this? I realized that since I lowered my carb intake I'm closer to a diet like this than I realized, just haven't upped the fat intake that keto uses.

Keto burns a lot of muscle along with fat. There's a reason bodybuilders cut slow and don't just drop 20 pounds in a month on keto.

a lot of us in st:F have made the mistake of doing keto before.
yea you'll shed weight quick, but you lose way too much muscle. Just go with a high protein, moderate carb, low fat diet and stay at a deficit. By the time summer rolls around you'll be where you want to be

Been implimenting cheat meals/day at all? Especially focusing on carbs. Realize there isn't a lot of HARD evidence behind it, but I always made it over weight-loss hurdles by temporarily eating more, believe it or not. Food for thought, although I know you're trying to follow your prep coach's advice to a T.

There are numerous people on this forum who have run Keto (me, izzmatt, pelt, couple others I can't remember), and we all came to the conclusion that it isn't worth it, ESPECIALLY if you're using it in conjunction with lifting. If you're just doing keto/atkins and not exercising then you won't be too bad, but with the intensity I prefer from training, a weekly carb re-feed wasn't enough. Worked out on Monday, goodnight sweet glycogen stores, felt like a zombie until Saturday, thank god for my carb refeed, repeat for 2-3 months. Lost a lot of weight, lost a decent amount of strength and muscle. Could have lost that weight a million different ways that would have been healthier. A lot of people on here do LeanGains, check out the website for it...it focuses a lot more on carb cycling, ie workout days you have higher carbs lower fats, non-workout days you have high fats low carbs. Infinitely better than Keto, in my opinion. There's a thread/guide, if you search, on this forum that Lurk wrote up about it.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm looking at LG too and it seems pretty solid. Right now I feel like I'm somewhere in between the two as pretty much all of my carbs come from a copious amount of fruit.

I have. I decided to implement a small re-feed about once every 2 weeks, replacing my last 3 meals of the day with of a box of kashi cereal, and a quart of almond milk. Haven't noticed any changes in body composition, but definitely improves my energy levels for the next 3-4 days worth of training sessions.

Quit eating so much fruit. Fructose is metabolized in the liver, doesn't effect the insulin response, doesn't replenish muscle glycogen, and is predominantly stored as adipose tissue.
Start eating more complex carbs. Sweet potatoes, Brown rice, oats, kashi cereal

Exactly how I was. Also, getting up was the hard part...most of the time I just felt completely winded of all energy, after sitting or laying down I had to have a really good reason to stand up. Really felt like a zombie all the time...I moved and lifted like one too, unfortunately.

Somehow managed to lose 20ish lbs in the last 3 weeks or so, mostly just on diet. I've ran a few times with friends and done ab workouts a few times, but the biggest change has been diet. I used to eat whatever, and now I'm paying attention to what I'm eating and working out a little, and I'm already down a pants size. For reference, I was 6'2" and ~245 about 3 weeks ago, and just now I am 225 and my pants are annoyingly saggy. I don't really know what I'm aiming for, I'm just trying to get rid of my gut and increase my core strength, which seems to be working so far. I'm not quite as tired after work anymore (discount tire) and I seem to overall have more energy. Feelsgoodman.jpg

This true? I've heard things along this line but also that you can eat away, regardless I have cut down, just don't have the biggest choice of what carbs I can get here

Keep up the good work man. It gets easier as you go. Start lifting some and you'll really see some changes and feel good.

Biggest way for me to cut weight fast was dumping sodas. I did that and lost 10 pounds in one week and kept it off for several years. Unfortunately, I got back into the habit after that and now I've regained it. Hmm, should do that again.
