Big Bang Theory
I glanced at the first two pages and didn't see anything about it.
I have to admit, I thought the SitCom was an extinct genre in American television. It was sad, because I love coming home from work and shutting my mind down for a bit and watching them. The 80s and early 90s were full of hilarious sitcoms, but then, along came shows like ER, Law and Order, then CSI, CSI, CSI and CSI, etc. and the next thing you know - sitcoms are like the dodo on the extinct list.
Then a few weeks ago, I was introduced to the Big Bang Theory. I have to admit, I laugh my *** off at most of the episodes.
Anyway, anyone else like BBT?

Sitcoms are not extinct, they have just evolved. The bad ones still use the old formula (think Two and a Half Men). All of the good sitcoms are single camera. Parks and Recreation, Modern Family, 30 Rock, Community, Always Sunny, The League. These are great, funny shows but they aren't using the old in front of a live audience style. I can't think of a single current multi-camera sitcom I like.

See, I've tried to get into the newer "sitcoms" but I just can't. It's just not the same. To be quite honest, the humor in most of the newer ones isn't all that funny to me. (Guess that's why I think they became extinct.) Sure, I get a laugh out of them from time to time, but not like I used to. At best, they're just mediocre compared to the older stuff.
Oh well, maybe it's just me. Guess I'm getting old!

I think you may be watching the wrong ones. Follow Sturgeon's Law and try to find the 10%. A lot of the old sitcoms were bad, too, you just remember fondly the ones you liked.

I wouldn't go that far. It's one of the better of what I would describe as the lesser sitcoms. It has a legitimately talented cast but the jokes are just so predictable and lame.
That said, it's also sort of gross to me in a way. This isn't an original thought of mine but I thought it was a pretty apt description: TBBT is basically nerd blackface. It's not a for us by us situation. It's masquerading as a show for nerds with a reference to Star Wars once an episode but mostly it just makes fun of nerds, something we've had plenty of in our real lives. That is just something I cannot get behind. I'll stick to Community which is a show made by nerds for nerds and it only has one real nerd main character.
If I spent less time thinking about this stuff and more time thinking about school stuff I'd have a graduate degree already...

What made this show great were the four genius level guys who were socially akward, as soon as they got gf's it became something more.
All shows must evolve, I get that. Sadly it can only get so far:
Love this show.

This. I've been meaning to start Parks and Rec. and Always Sunny, though.

I love the big bang theory. In the first season they play paintball a few times.
They only wear goggles and no masks on their lower face, and they have their hoppers installed backwards in every single paintball episode. You'd think someone would know better.

I'm late to the party on this show. I watch it in reruns because it's ALWAYS on. Howard rules.

I think Community blows this show out of the water. No laugh track and fresh ideas.
I think the characters of HIMYM should all be dead of liver failure by now. Its a solid show, but I dont think a lot of the realtionships represented are close to realistic.
Despite what I said I still enjoy those shows.

They're trying way too hard to portray the geek/nerd culture. It's horribly misrepresented, and the comedy is bland.
