I don't think it's the marketing really. Consider lots of sports have insane start up costs for the best gear. Football, baseball, and paintball is no exception. 2 things are vastly different for paintball though. 1) less known pro league ie not televised, etc he'll even soccer in the US have more visibility than paintball. 2) ever time you go to play there is a cost and it can be steep with entry, paint, air (in the field charges for that). I agree with most others suggestions, slow down on the paint (pump, lower the cap on your max rate of fire, etc). Finally word if you bought all your own gear you loved it enough to do that. Keep the gear and pick it back up in a few months or a few years when the money is available.
