Certainly remake movies that were already remade once and done perfectly.

Yup, it's a prequel.

Also, Mary Elizabeth Winstead =

I thought this was coming out this year and not 2013.....

It tells the tale of the Norweigan camp that first came into contact with the thing. Apparently continuity was crucial to the production team and they worked hard to recreate all the details in the camp. I.E an axe in the door here, burn marks there....

That's good to hear. As long as its entertaining and sets up the the first movie well. I'll be a happy camper.

Saw the trailer a while back, it's gonna be mediocre at best.

Only part I care about in the whole film, which is probably gonna be no more than 2 minutes before the credits roll.

Hmm am I the only one who was disappointed when I realized this was not about The Thing.... I was expecting the Giant orange guy from Fantastic Four, thinking they were just going to make a solo movie about him...

No doubt the second fantastic four was downright disgusting, but somehow a movie just about the thing seemed interesting.

Now I'm all sad and ****.

Ah...I'm a huge fan of the first movie, and I kind of wish the would have just let it be. Whether you distinguish this as a prequel or not, it's storyline/premise is damn near identical to the first. I mean, they're in Antarctica and there's a Thing...there's only so many places you can go with that.

I thought it was going to be about the animated hand from the Addams Family.

This movie not being made for the original Thing fans, its for the 18 year olds that have never seen any movie from before 1998.

You guys do realize The Thing back in the 80s was a remake itself, of the one from the 50s, right?

When I saw this, I was like "Oh no they didn't! They replaced Kurt with a woman???"

That said, I loved the Kurt Russell movie...I hope this one sets up that movie quite well. I'll see it, of course, but not holding out high hopes...

Prequel to a remake of an adaptation of a story wrote in the 1930's. Oh, Hollywood.

Is the original worth watching? I've only seen John Carpenter's remake. (Which is amazing, obv)

I'll go see the new one, but dont have any expectations.

Mary Winstead is certainly part of a reason to watch.

The original is typical 50s horror - campy and such. Not all that great to me...but I do recommend watching it just so you can say you did.

That being said, the original The Day the Earth Stood Still was way better than the remake.
