I still associate the fact that I heard Ether before ever hearing a Jay Z song (yeah, kinda strange. I know) with the fact that I can not stand ANY Jay. Can someone please recommend some of Jay's music that is good that I can listen to? I don't have the patience to go through all of his stuff for things that don't suck, and quite frankly I feel like a lot of it sucks.
Been on a massive Big L binge lately with a bit of Pac, Masta Ace, Biggie, and Nas in there. I don't hate it.

reasonable doubt
blueprint 1
some of black album
some of blueprint 3
watch the throne
anything kanye produced for him.
it really depends what kind of jayz you like tho. jays styles changes like every other song. most of the times for the worst. when it comes to jay u just gotta download all his **** and go through and pick out the **** you like. kind of a pain but he does have some really good ****.
i have never been crazy impressed with jay-z's stuff. he's a little on the commercial side. i have the blueprint, reasonable doubt, and vol. 2 hard knock life.

I like Gibbs a lot but I was a little disappointed by Cold Day in Hell; probably just because it got pushed back a bunch and also there were better tapes released on the same day.

I agree 100%. I just don't see how people can put him in the top 5 rappers of all time category. I'd rather hear
Biggie, Tupac, Big L, Nas, Snoop, and probably a lot of others but I just named 5 off the top of my head that I liked more.

while i love most classic rappers im not and never will be a biggie or snoop fan
Really?
I don't think Biggie is better than Pac (not by a long shot) but I do think he is good. Snoop has some good stuff too, his newest stuff I've heard sucks but his older stuff is sweet.
