It still didn't fail. It sold a ****ton of copies and is still AFAIK the #1 played game on live.

They're only terrible because you've never seen them done well before. I'm sure they could make an FPS with a new setting like that, but then again, it is much easier to just keep pumping out similar titles.

the problem with BF3 is that it sucks dick unless you are playing with people you know, and if you just feel like putting in a game and ****ing around for 30-60minutes, BF3 is a terrible game to play. Too dependent on the quality of the teamwork and not really fun without a group of people you know.

Seriously think about what a revolutionary war FPS would be like. I mean really think hard. You can't, because if you think about it for more than a few seconds, your brain rebels out of boredom and starts pumping out Morrissey songs to punish you.

Funny, that's what happens when I think of generic modern warfare games.

if you sold something made of quality you'd make 5x as much bank instead of rushing a game with a **** ton of exploits/flaws etc.

There is a revolutionary war mod for source and its surprisingly fun since it takes a while to reload.

Not possible..

A quality game involves a niche, IMO. Game developers don't like to make games that only certain people will like. They want to appeal to the masses. I don't see how this will ever change, honestly. It's all about the money.

THe Hsitory Channel made some interesting Civil War games. They were fun for a minute, but exceedingly frustrating. CoD size battles with Arma/Op Flashpoint realism.

Man, I'm thinkin' real hard about it, let me lay it out for you:

Game starts, you choose a class. You can be a Musketeer, Canon specialist, Drummer, Flutist, or Flag-Bearer.

The first 5 minutes of the game focus on the tension-filled march up to the opponent. You shift the two analog sticks to keep walking in-step, or face falling down and getting your nice red coat full of dirt. You cannot walk anywhere but straight ahead to the enemy.

Musician-classed players do not need to control their movement but instead use flute and drum peripheral controllers to play a Guitar-Hero-like mini-game in order to recreate all the hit 18th century jams.

Once in position (~20 feet from the enemy line), you enter a series of quick button presses to gaily twirl your musket or flag around. Any mistakes lose your army morale points, which govern how many reinforcement waves you get.

When the mark is given, all players fire simultaneously and, if not hit, rapidly tap A and B to reload their muskets. If hit, a comrade may drag you 10 feet from the line and cut off one/more of your limbs with his saber in order to prevent your death long enough to have you play a new soldier in the next round. If you die, you can only watch the battle and hope someone trips over your body (you still get points if this wounds them).

Canon specialists get one shot per round which they can aim in a single cardinal direction (they're too inaccurate to bother with anything more precise). 5% chance cannon misfires and kills the player.

Eventually, everyone runs out of ammo and charges with bayonets. Rapidly tap Y to gut your opponents, earning combo points for kills in quick succession.

Oh, drummers, flutists, and flag-bearers die the instant firing begins, but they're valuable players in amassing morale points!

An expansion could add a few more classes: medics cut off limbs and apply leeches, officers drink tea on the sidelines, and cavalry compensate for their lack of firepower by trampling the enemy under hoof.

Now tell me that doesn't sound like more fun than the last few COD games!

:dodgy???:

forget you all, a civil war call of duty would be the best thing ever and you know it.

edit: It should either be that or an urban warfare call of duty. name it call of duty: dank ops or something
