ball falling out of barrell

when i tip my gun down the ball sometimes falls out of the barrell. more time than not the ball falls a few inches down the barrel which leads me to shoot inconsistent fps. i checked and replaced the ball stopper but that didnt help. my barrel is a .689 lapco barrel. do you think i should get a smaller barrell? will this help at all? or what do you suggest i do. my gun is a e2 ninja cocker. can anyone help

check your detents, and check your bore with the paint that you are using. if the paint just rolls down the barrel, get a smaller bore size. i reccomend getting a full Freak barrel kit, with every bore sleeve that you will ever need, or get a Deadlywind Fibur barrel, which is just a one-piece carbon fiber Freak barrel, but you have to buy he Freak sleeves separately. i'm saving up for one

Detentes no, they dont do anything to prevent roll outs, just double feeds.

Barrel bore is where you need to look. I replied to your post on CC.

Before buying a new barrel just try a different brand of paint.

What do you think causes a double feed? The ball in the breech rolling out of the breech but stopping in the end of the barrel, if the barrel bore is a larger size than the ball then it will cause rollouts.

If you have detents check them make sure they work properly.

If you don't have detents then buy a smaller bore barrel.

The ball detent holds the ball in place while the bolt is open. Its enough resistance to stop any force on the ball stack, including gravity, from allowing more than on ball into the breach at a time. The bolt then travels forward, positioning that one ball at the back of the barrel until it is shot.

A ball detent, working, non-working, or missing altogether does nothing to stop roll-outs on an autococker due to it being a closed bolt firing gun.

A smaller bore barrel or larger paint is the only solution. If you cant afford a smaller bore barrel, some people try a small piece of tape, or nail polish etc to create a bit of a bump at the back of the barrel to hold the ball in place before its shot. I suggest a Freak barrel with 679 / 682 / 684 inserts.

well the bolt sits forward unless the ball is past the detents already while the bolt is forward then it would prevent roll outs. I never had a cocker with dentents only mechs without them. Is the bolt in the forward position putting the ball past the detent?

Yes, when the bolt is in its resting position the ball is past the detents as it is for EVERY closed bolt gun. Which means that the detents have no use other then stopping double feeding from your hopper.
Weltmaker summed it up perfectly.

If you have a barrel you love you can send it off to doc's custom's to get wedgets put in place, if you're not in love get a smaller bore barrel which will help prevent the ball from rolling foreward.

IMO a barrel kit would be your best investment. You never know what size paint you will end up shooting. Sizing your current box of paint to the proper bore size should be something you do before you begin play. Every time you go out. Too loose gives inconsistent FPS and roll outs. Too tight with cause balls to hook and curve or even break in the barrel.Usually a good idea to check it again mid day if your paint has warmed up from sitting in the car or In the sun ect. As it may tighten up with increased temperature. Not only will doing this prevent roll outs but will also give the most consistent velocity and highest possible accuracy.

you can always do the redneck thing and put electrical tape on the inside of the barrel but I do not recommend this

.689 is your problem. It looks like .685 or smaller is the norm right now. I am running between .682 and .684.
