Three fortresses now and I have yet to see iron. Did they make iron really rare? I felt like I was guaranteed iron in the old patches.

****ing lol at giant jaguars.

My first fortress in 31_25v23 had iron EVERYWHERE for at least 5 zlevels, maybe more.

I abandoned the fort. I wanted to have an awesome fort with lots of fighting.

Do you remember which biome it was? I know certain biomes are more likely to get certain minerals.

Also, embarking on multiple biomes is awesome. Everytime I start a new fort I figure out like 10 new things.

You should give it a try, at first it was a little much and I watched some tutorials 2 or 3 times before I could figure out the basics of the game. I guess that is one of funnest parts for me, is the challenge. I can't stand these games out now where everything is handed to you on a silver platter with no challenge/thought process whatsoever. This game makes you think and plan with little room for error.

I've been following up with a thread on the official forums of a multi-player version but it is still very early in development. Should be awesome!

Started a new fort. Really should pay attention to the temperatures and biomes and whatnot. Everything is frozen and covered in a thick coat of snow.

[edit]

Snow is melting, just noticed I actually made my fort on the top of a small mountain, in a coniferous forest. Everything went better than expected.png

[edit 2]

This map is actually pretty cool, has a waterfall that goes down 6 zlevels, and there are LOADS of gems and silver, I wait till the water freezes then I go and mine out around the river for all of the visible gems and whatnot, its pretty awesome.

No iron or anything yet though.

That does sound like a cool map. I've seen frozen water in my maps but never snow.

I just got my first waterfall too. Its not hiding any cool gems though so I'm just going to leave it be, even if it does freeze.

****ing Zinc everywhere.

It was a cool looking map, but largely useless. Loaded with gems and silver, but that's it, no ore for me to make weapons and armor, and I didn't want to have to rely on trade.

I've never had to fight a titan before, but I've ****ed up a lot of forgotten beasts, some of them are extremely weak.

Found a deadly new starting area, iron and flux on the first level I mined into.

[edit]

Oh wow, just ****ing great. I had my woodcutter outside doing his thing when a raccoon scared him, he dropped his axe and ran off, and the ****ing raccoon picked the axe up and ran off the map.

Sitting at about 75 dwarves, starting to get a bit overwhelmed. Also, steel is a huge pain in the *** to produce.

I just hit 50+ and had to set up all sorts of custom profiles in dwarf therapist. I think I set up 10 simple professions (brewer, cook, mason, miner, etc) and then all the random as hell ones like furnace operator and **** you might need briefly into another one that includes all the hauling jobs. Now when I get immigrants I immediately stick them into that hauling profession and then pull them into specific ones when I realize I need more labor somewhere.

So has anyone ever had a dwarf be taken by a mood and actually craft something good?

I'm sick of limestone tables encrusted with limestone and hatch covers with pictures of elves being killed by minotaurs, I want some armor or weapon artifacts.

Though I will admit, the steel figurines my guy made depicting the founding of our fort was pretty awesome.

I just got my first good artifact. I got a pair of gem encrusted steel chain leggings (or something like that) valued at over 300,000.

I hope I would see more of this, but my next moody dwarf made a coal table. I'm okay with tables though, they increase the value of your dining room by a lot.

75 dwarfs for me too now. ****s getting busy. Lost a dwarf to a strange mood because I just couldn't get him to take a shop. He starved to death with no tantrum though, so at least that's good. And it forces me to start my burial chamber.

Danger rooms are ridiculous. I used it for about a minute and got a handful of legendary combat skills on 4 dwarves. Now I just need to get my damn steel industry running. Except I have no flux and no iron. !!!

You lurkers need to pick up the pace. Me and JC are running the show. PLAY DWARF FORTRESS.
