What would happen if PSP and the NPPL merged?

Just thought about it, if they did merge would it help the sport of tournament paintball or hurt it? And if so do you think they would use nppl semi 15bps capped or 12.5 ramp? Which one would you prefer?

Ramp is hurting paintball in general. Focusing on semi would improve both skill and the health of the sport. I believe that manufactures would focus more on the quality of the triggers and the feel of guns if it was semi, because the feel of a gun and trigger is vital in semi.

i dont care what they do, as long as there is NO coaching. but other than that i would say 15bps capped semi.

Given how hard it is to effectively police firing modes, bounce, and cheater boards, capped ramping is clearly the better solution. The whole "ramping scares players away" argument is nonsense - any experienced NPPL player will be shooting well beyond 12.5 bps consistently even in pure semi.

I can shoot over 15 on an 07 ego or 09 impulse, with no bouncing. I spend a lot of time tuning for no bounce. I really hate it when a gun has a bouncy trigger.

I normally play capped semi at 12.5bps and I shoot that very consistently. However I do use ramp when I play tourneys because its more consistent off the break with off hand- and when dumping a pod.

With all that said, I do think that its probably easier to police ramping. But I agree with what Dye said- I wouldn't care about the firing mode- just no coaching. I think coaching is far more detrimental then ramping is.

I think the ideal merger would be to have different tourney types- have a ramping 12.5bps division, and a semi 15bps division, then a tactical or pump division.

Of course I don't think that is realistic to have all those "divisions" in one league. I think there would have to be something more off the wall for people to accept the merger.

Be interesting to see if there could be a 50% ramp league. I love the 50% ramp mode on my Dynasty shocker board. Adds 1 shot for every 2 trigger pulls above whatever the "sustain" rate is. What's nice is that if you don't want to dump full out ramp- you can shoot at a decent rate and it will only add 1-2 shots in a moderate string. But if you're not a fast shooter, or if you stutter with an off hand, then it will assist you enough to hit 12.5bps. Though a percentage based ramp would be harder to police then full ramp or semi. Lol

I know right? True semi was dead by 2001

PSP can suck it, NPPL can suck it. I don't care if they merge, split, close or go bankrupt. Regional paintball tournaments are just as fun and cost 80% less because you don't have to fly all over the place or support the dead weight of the professional division.

I hope these two leagues merge and fail and eventually someone else comes in and creates something better.

Thats why playing semi requires more skill...if you practice shooting on the reload in semi you wont have to lean on ramping to get through it.

And semi is easy to police, didnt NPPL just mandate that virtue put a governor chip on all the pro guns? that tells them if the semi is true semi and makes sure they dont go over 15. its pretty straightforward.

Wrong. Semi is nearly impossible to police. The refs would need to somehow find a way to count every trigger pull and match it to every ball fired. They can't just check the boards before the match. That is both incredibly time consuming and can be circumvented with cheater boards.
