twist of fate

Go figure, I'm posting here and elsewhere on the net,
in hopes of trying to get those who've never been to
D-Day before to come and check it out, only to
have someone else come along and try to convince
them no to. There's going to be differences of opinion,
but what's new about that?

With between 4-5 thousand players there'll always be
a few people who want to cause trouble of some sort.
The good news is it hasn't gotten out of hand at D-Day
and if it does the owner, Dewayne, would step in and
BAN them from the event and NOT being allowed to
play in D-Day is about the worst fate you can imagine.

one thing i was wondering about with a big game like that is this: if i were to go alone (i live in north dakota and a lot of my friends have full time jobs and it might be hard to convince anyone to come with) is there like a safe place to stash my gear bag... i mean i like to think that i could just leave my stuff on a bench or something and it would be safe but i know thats not realistic. are there lockers or anything? or is it just advisable to try to bring what u can carry and leave the rest in your car or hotel?
also "speedball" guns are way more awesome than "woodsball" guns.. i routinely tear up my friends who use tippmann a5s and have them thinkin about pickin up eteks or egos

Just ask one of the members of the unit you join to stash
your bag in their car till the game is over. Can't imagine
not getting to know someone there well enough to trust
them to do that for you.

Sincerely,

There are players that show up Saturday and play out of their car. However, D-Day is not just a game, but an "experience".

Of course camping is the best way to get the whole experience of the event. But, many players "hotel it". Each unit has an assigned camping area, so hooking up with your unit and making new friends is easy.

When you register, you will choose a unit that is open for registration. Now, nothing says you "must" stay with that unit. However, you will not have as much fun. Even at an event as large as D-Day it helps to know a little bit about the game dynamics. That is where the unit structure comes in....it gives you a general idea of what is going to happen.

Of course if you are just showing up to sling paint at red or blue, you can do that too, but it will not be as much fun.

The player is far more important than the marker. The marker is not even in the top five most important pieces of equipment you take on the field.

To add a bit to what Staticline posted (and everything he posted is 100% correct), you miss out on a lot if you don't camp on-site for a few days before the game. Unless you make a conscious effort to stay by yourself, you will find the people there very friendly and willing to hang out with you.

The days before Saturday involve mini-games that allow players in units to sling paint together before the Big Game. After the mini-games, it is a blast to cook out with new friends, swap lies about guns, women, and cars over cold refreshments, and then get ready for the evenings' activities before crashing looking forward to doing something similar yet different the next day.

Camping is free/included with the cost.

Oklahoma in June/July is mainly hot(95-100+). But there is no telling what the weather will actually be like tell that day. Last year we got lucky and had no rain all week(first time in many years) and was only like 85degrees during the day of the main play. Made for a very nice day to place.

I'd suggest that you join the 1st ID. You'll find
other younger players as well as seasoned vets.
Another plus is that they have the closest camp
to the vendors & food.

Sincerely,

Your setup has nothing to do with where your play...

Choose which ever side you feel like going one, then choose whatever beach you feel like attacking/defending.

this.

Your setup means about nothing in the scheme of where you play. (the ONLY exception to that is AT) Pick a unit that looks fun, and reg there.

The first thing you need to add to your gear is a Camelbak. You can find a good one at Academy Sports for less than $20.00 (hunting area) and a serviceable one (bicycle area) for less. I agree with Gamer and Wolf; your gear should not be a deciding factor on which unit you choose. In fact, your marker is not near the top of the list of gear in terms of importance.

Age doesn't matter either. Aside for the select few units that require you to be 15. But other then that age does not matter where you play

[age doesnt matter except the certain age required groups which are set 15+, not to many of those]

Your gun setup has nothing to do with the unit [excluding units with bazookas] Every unit has it's own experience, I say go with the one that sounds coolest to you ......maybe the 726th

CEF 2011 Recruiting video.

A look at some of the CEF players caught
during one of the daily mini scenarios, which
occur daily during the week leading up the
big final event on Saturday. More than
enough action to keep anyone busy, no
matter the style of play you prefer.
