The subject is open to debate - but my personal opinion on it is that polishing before ano is the smarter move. Anodizing produces microscopic pores - that is what captures the dye to provide the color. While the pores deform and partially close to trap the dye when the parts are sealed, the pores are still large enough to hold liquid and semi-liquid materials - such as lubricants (the dye is solid particulate suspended in the liquid). Polishing after anodizing removes a large portion of these pores volume. When the pores no longer are able to hold a layer of lubricant, the o-rings act like a squeegee and the bolt does not maintain a layer of lubricant as reliably as when anodized. The breakout friction may be reduced by polishing after anodizing as is the diameter of the bolt further reducing the friction - but the longevity of the o-rings may suffer as well.

Again, the topic is debatable and there are people that swear both ways. That is the more common train of thought presented in o-ring design guides though.

Coatings matter a whole lot less than dimension and surface finish, in that order.

I agree - I've never had a problem running a bolt unanodized for extended periods of time. I've also never polished one to the point of getting a near mirror finish on it.

Hm. my luxe bolt, etc isn't that great after using it for extended amounts of time. Could be the poor milling job on the bolt guide too :/

Polish before hand so it's the "best" surface finish (per lurker).
Sorry if I rambled. Basically I don't want to copy, use gimmicks, etc.
If something could work or even add the slightest improvement, I'd like to try it. Worst it does is show us what Doesn't work for future applications.

Well, I'm a bit late to this party, but I feel like there can never be too many options for my G3. I understand that you guys are focusing on the newer G series guns, but I'll be here if you guys get around to the G3.

I'm with Yoda, in that I like efficiency as priority #1. Personally, if it does better than stock, and comes with a tool-less back cap (if that's part of the package), I'll be happy.

Can't make a promise, but the G3 is going to be the next in line. As y0da said, it shouldn't be that difficult to get the G4 engine -> G3

Just my 2 cents

I'm pretty sure the G4 will always be smoother than the G3 because it has a greater volume of air behind the bolt. Greater volume = Less Preassure.

TechT Bolt Engine CAN be improved because the design is VERY similar to the ION Bolt they had already designed. To help, I have my G3 IQ, a TechT bolt engine and a metric caliper I'll wip out for you guys when I get some free time and I will include Engine measurements so you can get a better picture of the TechT Engine.

I have seen and I'm amazed by your work Master Yoda and Master Deathwish, I will do all I can to contribute.

if u guys plan on making a new cap you could cram a small second regulator in there so that the dump chamber pressure can be lower than the pressure that's holding the the bolt back so u can fiddle with the entire bolt design itself more.

do both have the same dwell?

i wonder why everyone is saying the original g3 is smoother when both are using techt engines. i know my stock spec r is smoother than a stock g3.

yes both on 8 dwell. but both my techt is modified too and i have a thicker oring on the back of the bolt stem of the g3 and thats probably why. also as a remember on both marker as stock the specr is louder and kicks more also.

see i disagree with the louder and kicks more stock vs stock. after owning both i honestly feel the spec r shoot smoother... maybe i should compare them. I would if i had two lurker barrels. i dont count loud if its with the stock barrel. the lurker barrel really improved my spec r on all levels.

So, today I went to the post office to pick up a box of infant formula...

Which I will promptly tear apart and begin reverse engineering

Still refining the various designs, hoping to start on prototypes in the next couple of weeks.
