Been getting about 3-4 hours of battery on my 11 in. air. I like it much better than the pro I had, mainly for the SSD, it makes a huge difference. For how small this thing is with the i7 and 8 GB RAM it packs a punch. It cools down really quick too if you close it and put the fans facing up. Much better choice than the 13 inch pro for me.

I just ordered mine yesterday

11 inch Macbook Air
- 2.0 GHz CPU
- 8GB RAM
- 256GB SSD
- 27 Inch Thunderbolt Display
- AppleCare

I'm concerned that it will get hot or the fans will be loud when it's driving the TB display. Other than that I'm pretty excited about it. 11in Air with a 4G LTE MiFi is going to be awesome for traveling.

They do get a bit warm, but mine maintains around 80c when it's going all out with the fans over 5k rpms.

I'm pretty sure they're designed to max out around 80-90c, I've been trying to find out how long it's safe to run it at those temps but can't really find any answers. I wish it didn't run so hot. When I'm playing KOTOR, bought on the app store, which has decent graphics nothing extreme though it runs about 80c. When I close it out it immediately drops to the 60s and now less than 5 minutes later it is at 47c.

Any tips on keeping it cooler while it's running hard or is it safe to operate at 85c? I know the junction on this chip is 105c, anyone know how to maintain temps in the 50-60s?

I have the backside propped up about a half inch by DVDs on my desk already and still am getting these temperatures.

It will run fine at those temps for extended periods. You can't do much to cool it aside from putting it on an AC vent or minimizing the CPU/GPU load. The Macbooks intake air around the hinge, keyboard, and ports so lifting it won't do much unlike say a Dell laptop that has a downward facing fan intake.

Yeah, I usually put it over my ac vent on a roll of duct tape when I'm not using it. I have it set up now where my MBA is closed and I'm running it on a 19 inch Samsung via DVI cable. It runs very smooth which I like to see as I've seen reports of peoples MBAs fans running full blast at 80c only supporting an idle thunderbolt display. Running web browser and iTunes it will maintain about 45c, still reaching temps up around 90c when playing games, but the temp does drop off back to the 40s within minutes when I stop. When I run PS 6 it will maintain around 60c which is nice. I guess MBAs just really have to put out for any gaming.

Contraption I built today, took a good 2-3 hours. Used an old computer fan, an old phone charger cord to power it, some wood, glue and pvc. The end of the pvc is blocked off with hot glue and cardboard. The seams are all sealed with wood glue and hot glue. The air flow is just enough to keep air moving under the laptop where heat usually builds up when it's on the desk. Maintaining under 45c with Safari, iTunes and iPhoto. Haven't gamed with it yet but will update later.

CPU still reaches 85c when playing KOTOR, but I feel better about having it propped up with air flow underneath.

Edit: Re did the stand. Added a switch to the fan and raised the laptop completely. Fan is optional really. It's sort of noisy, but effective and not the fan in my computer so it really doesn't matter.

Im not sure on the numbers, but I have the aluminum MBP 13". I noticed a great decrease in the temp while I was playing SC2. However, I had to take the 10 or so screws out and played with the bottom cover off. Provided great airflow but I was afraid of damaging my logic board and such.

Got my first mac today, a used 2008 black Macbook. I am going to be using it for teaching and will most likely need both USB ports for Smartboard/presenter.

Can anyone recommend a good bluetooth mouse or mouse/keyboard combo for a fairly low price?

On that note is bluetooth normally reliable with these things? I need to keep as little clutter as possible.

Never seen bluetooth with an 08 macbook but on my friends mac mini his apple bluetooth keyboard and mouse are flawless. Also, my iPhone to my 2012 MBA as a remote for iTunes is very responsive, the bluetooth seems to work quite well in Apple products.

Got my 11" mba and thunderbolt display today. So glad I went with this instead of a retina mbp. I like that I can dock it and have a huge display, wired ethernet, and all my externals connected or undock and have an ultra portable notebook. Best of bolth worlds.

That's absolutely how I feel but I have just a 19 inch Samsung. As far as ultra portable laptops go I'm convinced macbook air is the best one.

I did. Zero day installs are generally pretty insane but since I have a few extra computers around it doesn't matter. So far so good. Updated from lion and no problems yet. I'm really liking it for the reminders app and dictation, I use those both heavily on my phone.
