Upgrading Video Card Question

Hi all, I am upgrading my video card finally and wanted to get some of your input, currently I'm running a evga GeForce gtx 560 ti, that I've had for like 5 years and am looking into getting this video card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814487088 Its a 970 Super super clocked, will I notice much of a difference? And is this a good buy for future proofing my system? Input much appreciated.

Yes-ish, and no...ish.

Yes, it is a HUGE improvement over the 560 ti. Fact of the matter is, the 560 is outdated. Very outdated. The 970 is fairly new (A year or so old). You're going to have a large jump in FPS, which is great.

However...

Chances are, you probably haven't updated your CPU since then as well. Or your RAM, for that matter, but that's usually less of an issue.

The 970 will probably be bottlenecked by the CPU. Plain and simple. Don't get me wrong -- it'll still give you a huge performance boost. But you just won't be able to get the most out of your 970.

As far as future-proofing, the 970 was one of the top-of-the-line last year and as such it'll still be viable for a while, at least another 2 years or so.

Yeah, an old cpu is gonna seriously kill your performance. You might as well sell the existing build to some guy who only wants to play steam games or something. A 4690k or 6600k and a decent amount of ram plus a 970 or 390 should be quite enough, however after the dx12 release, the AMD cards will see amajor performance gain.

I think the regular i5-6600 will work fine, the K version is more for overclockers and enthusiasts. The save him some $50+.

PB18 supports DLX Technology
There's w GeForce GTX 770 currently for sale but I would settle with a 970.

That's good then, you shouldn't have any problem. The i5 4670k is very solid.
