Is competitive Counterstrike dead?!

Lurker here.
I use to devote countless hours to CS 1.6 back in the day.
I Play CAL-O, CAL-IM, CEVO-A, and one season on a Main team unless I forgot about the game for awhile...got bored or less. Once Source came out, I started playing religiously again. I attended three lan tournaments placing top three each time (2nd, 3rd, 3rd), played some Eco-League, ESEA, CEVO, and probably a couple other of the "new CAL" leagues that popped up here and there, I really cannot remember.
Basically, I got a new rig...all excited to play CS:GO, CS:S, etc (mostly excited to start using ESEA again) and low and behold: The game is dead. There are some decent servers here and there, but ESEA is almost dead. [there are a few on ESEA, but not as many as there used to be pug-wise.]
So, I decide alright let's go into MIRC and find people that way.
NOTHING. Nobody uses MIRC anymore.

Bottom line, I know Global Offensive is relatively new but WOW. So, is scrimming outside of ESEA/CEVO dead? How do you find teams to "practice"? Ringing is dead? I'm distraught. I was so excited to get back into competitive gaming in my free time and boom! Gone.

Am I missing something, or is there a different game that's taken over the PC gaming world by storm that is a popular FPS?

the days of good gaming in general are, for the most part, long passed.

Cs has been dead since cal went under, esea blows and cevo well blows just as much. "Competitive" gaming is done by consoles now basically, the only real gaming done now is league of legends

probably the biggest bummer I've read in awhile. Sigh. The good days where MIIRC was flooded with scrims, ESEA was flooded with people, and CAL was the league to play in.

Maybe I need to pick up a console and get into that then.

Dota2 has a good scene. Much more competitive focused than LoL.

CS:S hit its height during the CGS days, I played a ton back then. Starcraft2 suffers from poor game design and never really 'took' like it should have. CS got fractured by the CS 1.6/source/GO schism and never really recovered.

Counter Strike will never be what it was years ago. Granted, I still think CS:GO is pretty solid, but not much of a competitive scene for it.
