Christ i hate my camera.

I got it cause it was 720p, and cheap. JVC GR-HD1U It sucks dick at importing, The only program i have found that will import it with out any special ridiclously priced plug-ins is my schools G5's in iMovieHD. Premier, 1.5, 2.0, and CS3 all need some homo "aspect HD plug in" that is like a few hundred. Then I can edit in Final Cut HD, and then export using compressor, and use dvd studio pro to make a dvd that looks like ****. :-\

I hate life. So currently I can't edit at home very easily. Because of a lack of Final Cut en mi casa. I tried a "obtained" version of aspect HD, but it sucked horribly and didn't allow me to export in HD, and it would crash Premiere like 4098 times. So I have defaulted back to my god damn sony handycam POS dcr-hc20.

I'm having some troubles too. Premiere's decided it doesn't want to capture any more, so I'm going to have to download HDVsplit or something. Also, I have noo idea if I'm going to be able to edit sony 24p. I guess I'll have to settle for 30 if that fails.

I'm thinking: Capture with HDVsplit, do pulldown in AE CS3, then edit with the Premiere 1080p 30fps preset. Anyone tried it?

EDIT: Or apparently, the adobe site says you can open 24p footage in a 30p timeline and it'll convert it for you. Any advice on this?

HD plit lets me capture, but it gives me this MT2 file. What do I do with this :-\

edit- premiere pro. but when i import them it just crashes... **** I HATE LIFE

edit edit- WOW i have no ****ing idea what I did, but for the hell of it I fired up PP2.0 (I have 3 versions on this computer lol) and went to import and its ****ing working... PRAISE JESUS

edit edit edit- well, maybe not its just "indexing" for about 5 minutes now. I imported like 10 seconds of tape, and its been "indexing" for seriously 5-10 minutes.

edit edit edit edit- wtf m8 it is working in CS3 ftw?

aahahahah its working, i <3 jesus

exported, and got to burnatnate to DVD, it looks pretty good too

I think I formatted it properly (the centering and margins didn't carry over when I posted). Any comments on it would be great, hoping to start casting this soon.



INT. UNFINISHED BASEMENT - DAY
ETHAN is sitting against a wall, holding a severe bleeding neck wound with teary eyes. MIKE is standing next to him, holding a PISTOL to his head. SOPHIE sits against a wall across from them, crying and yelling with a baseball bat next to her. DAVID lies dead in the corner, with a bite wound on his arm, two bullet wounds to the torso and one to the head. ZOMBIES bang on the small basement windows, and the door behind a makeshift barricade involving a bookshelf and boards of wood.
XCU of Ethanís face. Zoom out to reveal the PISTOL held to his head.

SOPHIE
(Screaming and sobbing)
What the **** is wrong with you?!


MIKE stares determinedly at ETHAN, while stepping back slowly.

SOPHIE
Heís still alive you ****ing psychopath! You donít murder-


A ZOMBIE SHATTERS the basement window and shoves his hand through. SOPHIE screams. MIKE flinches and FIRES the PISTOL into ETHANís head half-accidentally. Ethan slides to the floor, bleeding.


MIKE
****.


MIKE puts his hand to his head, and walks over into the corner to collect his thoughts.


SOPHIE
(Quietly, sobbing)
He was still alive, MikeÖ We could have helped himÖ


MIKE walks towards SOPHIE.


MIKE
(In a comforting manner)
Look, SophieÖ

SOPHIE
Get the **** away from me!

MIKE
(Sounding slightly more annoyed)
Now listen, I know youíre upset but-

SOPHIE:
Upset?! Of course Iím ****ing upset! You have just murdered two people.

MIKE:
Oh no, no, no, wait a second. Are you honestly trying to blame me for David?


In a flashback, ETHAN is seen sitting over DAVIDís dead body, which is lying relatively unharmed on the floor save for a bite wound on his arm. DAVID then gets up and bites into ETHANís neck. MIKE rapidly fumbles to get his PISTOL out of his holster with a horrified expression while SOPHIE screams.

SOPHIE stares up at MIKE, her anger subsiding into sadness.


MIKE
(In a convincing tone)
You knew what was going to happen to ETHAN just as well as I did.

SOPHIE pauses momentarily.

SOPHIE
(Quietly)
How are we going to get out of here?

MIKE
(Pauses, and turns away slightly)
I donít think itís likely.

SOPHIE
(Panicked)
What do you mean you donít think itís likely?! So weíre just going to wait here until they ****ing break in and kill us?

MIKE
No, I mean weíre going to sit here and wait until help comes.

SOPHIE
Yeah, because thatís going to ****ing happen. Every other house in the city is probably dealing with this ****.

MIKE
(Sarcastically)
Oh, well then why donít we just go out guns blazing with the ****ingÖ six shots Iíve got left in this thing, because weíll be so much better off while weíre out there. Iíll go get you a chainsaw while weíre at it.


SOPHIE looks hurt, and is looking like she is going to cry as she loses conviction.


MIKE
Hey, I seem to remember someone saying that carrying two magazines was paranoid. How about that?

SOPHIE
Mike, donítÖ

MIKE
Well it would appear Iíve got one mag on the floor, and a whole group of those ****ers-

SOPHIE
Mike!


MIKE exhales, and calms down.


MIKE
Iím sorry.


MIKE looks over to the zombies at the window.


MIKE
(To the zombies)
Yeah, shut the **** up! ****ing zombiesÖ

SOPHIE
(Quietly, and matter of factly)
Weíve got to board up the windows.

MIKE
(Looks at the window, then back at her)
As much as Iíd like to see the windows boarded up, Iím not doing it.

SOPHIE
Mike, if you donít do it-

MIKE
Have you seen those windows recently? You havenít, have you?


SOPHIE has her head buried in her hands.


MIKE
Why donít you take a look up there and tell me if you ****ing want to board it up?

SOPHIE
I canít, Mike.


MIKE sighs and walks over to a shelf, picking up some hearing protection. He holds them out to SOPHIE.


MIKE
Here, take these and go to sleep.


SOPHIE takes them, and looks up at him.


MIKE
Youíve been up since what, three this morning? Get some rest.


SOPHIE puts them on and closes her eyes. MIKE starts pacing.


INT. LIVING ROOM Ė DAY
SOPHIEís dream sequence. It is seen as if through a haze.
MIKE, SOPHIE, DAVID and ETHAN sit on couches in a living room. They are all silent. ZOMBIES can be heard banging on the front door. MIKE holds his PISTOL, DAVID holds a folding knife and SOPHIE holds a baseball bat. ZOMBIES can be heard breaking through a large window. Everyone gets to their feet, and MIKE runs into the hall. He begins shooting, firing three shots.


MIKE
Get into the basement!


They run into the basement while MIKE continues shooting.


MIKE (V.O.)
Sophie, get up.


INT. BASEMENT Ė NIGHT

MIKE shakes SOPHIE from her sleep. He looks panicked.


MIKE
Sophie. Get up.


Violent banging can be heard on the door behind the barricade. It sounds as if the wood is cracking.


MIKE
I think the doorís starting to break.


SOPHIE looks extremely worried and takes off her hearing protectors.


SOPHIE
What?!

MIKE
(Trying to maintain his calm)
The door, is breaking.


SOPHIE picks up her baseball bat, and stands up.


SOPHIE
Oh, ****. ****.

MIKE
Itís fine. Weíll reinforce it. Just go grab that box of nails-

The power goes out, plunging the room into pitch darkness. SOPHIE screams.

MIKE
Oh, ****!

SOPHIE
(Screaming and sobbing)
Mike! Oh god, no, where are youÖ (ranting)

MIKE
(Extremely panicked, but trying to maintain calm)
Sophie, calm down! Itís going to be fine! Iíve got a flashlight, we can just ****ing pile more **** against thisÖ

MIKE finds the FLASHLIGHT and shines it at the door. He starts getting a hammer and nails off the table.

MIKE
Alright! Go get the wood and everything thatís over there-

The ZOMBIES break through the door, and knock over the bookshelf to the floor. SOPHIE screams and cries hysterically. MIKE backs up quickly towards the back of the room. ZOMBIES can be seen staggering quickly in the room by the light of MIKEís flashlight. Once MIKE is backed into a corner he starts shooting, with each shot illuminating the basement as the ZOMBIES get closer. On the sixth shot, the zombies are less than a meter away. MIKE runs out of ammunition, and the flashlight drops to the floor, illuminating the corner of the room. Screams of pain, and ZOMBIES eating MIKE and SOPHIE can be heard.

I see what you're saying, but I've wanted to do a standard zombie movie for a while. I'm going to work in more of a chance of survival, like the radio stating that the police are executing successful rescues in their area in an attempt to build legitimate hope in the audience that they'll be able to barricade the door.

Also, I want this to be only a few minutes long, and shot in one day. I don't want a potentially confusing storyline, and innovative stories in this genre generally take time to develop.

I'm not trying to make excuses for being unoriginal, as I know this is a pretty standard storyline, but shooting something this difficult is a first for me and I'd like to keep it to simple entertainment.

Awesome thread idea. I'm in Paris on vacation, but currently just finished shooting a short for my friend, I'll post it up online once I get back. It came out REALLY well.

Right now, I shoot with a DVX100B, XL2, FX1, and FX7. I am also doing a short scene that I have scripted out, but need to get together some people to act and shoot it. I'm right now editing a documentary about the NE Hurricanes and the NPPL Boston event this summer, since it's the biggest event for them.

Awesome thread though, made my day to see it.

Edit: Also, I go to film school in NYC (School of Visual Arts, if you want the best film school on the east coast, check it out), and do some work for Derder Video Productions in San Diego, working on getting an internship in LA doing some work set with music videos, and am starting my Internship at Stiener Studios (My good friends dad owns the studio) in the Spring.

I usually just do an MPEG of the desired size.

I'm having trouble getting H.264 compression to work. It always looks and sounds like **** when I try it with adobe media encoder. Any advice on what settings to use?

You just have to keep trying out different settings to find what works well. Or get Sorenson Squeeze, that works pretty well.
