These are just some recents of Chicago and one of Kansas City.
Been running around recently with a $3 Minolta 7s and Tri-X educated-guessing exposures.

this dapper young gentlemen serenaded us while we explored gaudi's architecture

the streets of barcelona are a rat race of young algerian immigrants pawning off stolen goods and cops chasing them around

Do you prefer shooting subjects that are unaware of your presence or do you not care if they do or do not see you as you take their photograph?

Depends on the photo. Sometimes I don't want to disturb the subject/scene so I try not to be seen. Sometimes I think the photo could be more interesting to see the reactions of people who know that I'm putting the camera on them. Sometimes I want a photograph of something with me being the only thing in front of someone walking towards me and there is no way to not be seen.

I just try and figure out what would be the most interesting for the photo... sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I do believe that street photography is somewhat like sports, you don't want a bunch of pictures of the backs of heads. It can be hard to take a picture of people who see you and are obviously not happy about having their picture taken, but I believe that most of the time it is worth it.

here's some more from today with a short session with a not so happy baby but it works. I always have this feeling that what I'm taking is crap but when I get home I always find a few that I really like:
