Dog foods. What do you buy, where do you get it, how much do you pay, and why?
We don't have a thread about dog foods, so I figured I would start one.
Achilles (great dane) eats Eagle Pack Giant breed puppy food and ****ing loves it. I get it at petco and it costs $39 for a 15.5lb bag. It's on sale right now for $22 for 15.5lbs. Can you say rain check
Sydney eats Canidae all stages. Breeder gives it to us.
I get the eagle pack because its got good ingredients, Achilles loves it, and the nutritional levels are solid. 23% protein is almost perfect and very hard to find

I feed Taste of the Wild. It's about $40 for a 30 lb. bag. Four different formulas and my dog loves them all.

Due to food issues, it's Natural Balance's LID line for Caleb. It runs just over $2/pound at my local pet supply store.

Taste of the wild is awesome. I wish they had a giant breed formula.

I used to feed my dogs called Professional. Its a good brand but without all the fancy advertising if anyone is interested.
My lab has stomach issues and Professional and Nutro are the only brands I have tried that he does well with.
I use Nutro now because they have slightly better ingredients, and a better range of size for my dogs. Lab and an Aus. Shep.
Personally, I think those two brands do the best for my dogs. The only reason I switched to Nutro is because my lab seems to do better with it.

I fed my dane nutro max large breed for a while. His coat was getting a little rough and the ingredients were so so.
Eagle pack is much better than max, not sure about regular nutro though.

Thats currently what my Lab is eating. He used to get hot spots on various parts of him and it cleared up with Nutro.
I have never heard of Eagle Pack and I am not sure if they have it here. I may try it but they seem to be doing fine now.

Eagle pack is rather expensive, but worth it. It's a great food and actually fit for human consumption. It's also the only dry dog food used on the iditarod.

I also feed Taste of the Wild. It's grain-free which is great for boxers because they have a tendency to be allergic to grain. If anyone wants to try TOTW, they tend to send out free samples if you tell them what formula(s) you're interested in and how many dogs you have.

Hey taste of the wild, I have 13,000 great danes. I would like samples to see if they like your food. I require samples, 13,000 servings.
Free food for a long time

Seriously, I've never asked for samples myself but I know of others who have. If you call them up and tell them you don't know what formula you want to try and that you have 3 dogs, I've heard they'll send you at least one 5lb bag of each flavor maybe more.

Yes and no. Eagle Pack sponsors some of the mushers.

LOL I'm just "into" dogs enough to know it didn't sound quite right, so I looked into it.

I looked as far as the back of the bag. I've been to the iditarod event a couple times. I never saw any other dry dog food.

Ooh, I jealous! I'd love to see it live. There's a musher from around here that ran the Iditarod a couple of years go. The last time I talked to here, she was going to run a different race up there this year.

I've got a few posters signed by winners. I need to have my mom send them to me. Those are fond memories.

I have 2 gsd's that I feed raw. I have been doing it for a while now. It seems to be WAY cheaper then kibble. We averaging to spen just under $1 per pound usually.

I have always been interested with raw feeding.....
But I got my pups Taste of the Wild today. They like it, now I am just going to see if its worth the extra in price.

My dogs love Eagle Pack. Achilles has been growing like a ****ing weed with this stuff, hopefully slower than normal though.
