um. well i have heard things in the past about this. and i think that the spring is not needed its the fact that the hammer weights quite a bit and for better high rates of fire its needed. guns like egos have light hammers and do not need the extra spring.also the Low pressure ram u can buy for ICD achually does not have a spring. if its not broken don't fix it. lol hope it helps.

my experiences in this matter:

the spring can be removed, and the gun will shoot fine. however, minor mods will need to be made to the ram, and use of a lighter valve spring.

a bumper needs to be put on the back of the ram and the spare valve seat worked perfectly for this. also, the steel spring guide in the back of the ram housing needs LESS volume. i accomplished this by simply packing it with teflon tape. the only permanent mod was trimming down the spring guide to compensate for the extra length added by the bumper added to the ram.

with the addition of the lighter valve spring (i used a really soft spring) i was able to drop my operating pressure below 200 psi and lower the operating pressure while keeping my dwell the same. the gun itself smoothed out and had no velocity issues.

hope that helps.
