I want this lasering gone!

I have a clone, and I love it. But it looks so damn ugly. If I essentially do a polishing process, will I be able to remove the lasering with just sand paper and polish? I know I could have it bead blasted, but that gets expensive.

Any other ways to remove lasering?

well, lasering is just burning a desing into the anno. So, remove the annodizing, remove the Lasering.

Really? I thought lasering burnt through the anno and onto the top layer of metal?

Depends on the strength of the laser. Essentially laser engraving just burns the dye out of the anodizing layer but it can go into the deeper aluminum. What's this gun look like out of curiosity?

It's a fighter jet dropping a bomb. I just don't like lasering in general though.

Maybe consider asking someone if they want to do a trade. They'l receive a "free laser job" and you'll get a clean gun for the cost of shipping.

Man that is a terrible thing to do to such a fantastic color, some people have no design sense when it comes to this stuff.

That's what I'm saying! The color combo is beautiful! But I just can't stand the lasering.

On top of the ugly design, the lasering has brown marks all over it that won't come off!

Do not sand paper the gun. You'll either have to get it re-annodized or trade it. I'm sure you'll be able to find someone that wants that gun for a stock colored one. Hell, you might make a couple bucks off the trade too.

Im currently in the process of re-anodizing a friends phantom. After stripping the ano off and doing a few runs with the polishing wheel the CCI graphic that was lasered on began to fade away. It was etched on pretty deep and I didnt want to remove it, but in order to get that mirror finish I had to take some of it off. You will need to re ano your gun but this is probably the best route if you want that ugly design gone.

Strip the ano using a caustic etch then use a bench grinder fitted with polishing wheel. Polish the body with white rouge compound until you get a mirror finish. Then anodize and dye to your liking.

You can get anodizing off with sodium hydroxide (NaOH). You can get powder and mix with water. It chemically is acting similarly to like oven cleaner, but a lot of people get those black marks and pitting I would assume from the concentration. That is what is going to affect it. Using too harsh of cleaners or like bleach or something will dissolve the anodizing and any contaminants in your aluminum body causing the pitting and giving an unattractive look as well.

You have options too, when using proper ano remover you can then beadblast and then polish from there, or try to polish slightly with a polishing wheel and some good compound right after.

as far as the ano goes, it depends on the laser, but for the most part, laser shops run ~60 watt lasers (give or take) and those will just take laser through the annodizing and won't have the heat concentration to do anything at all to the metal itself. If it did, it would be right on the surface and very thin and easy to get off through repolishing

but if you are going for a different color, you may not need to do polishing on it. Those tiny little micro pores is how the anodizing can hold on...You can try to find a local specialized shop to acid wash (etch) your body. That will take it right off.

I have seen re-anodizing look kinda bad, to ok, to just as good as the original. By stripping it you would etch it and get different surface, and the anodizing takes up a layer of the metal, so you would lose about .001" off your body...which isn't a problem on the outside (but in other applications you can lose a tolerance by stripping anodizing). But, the coating is sealed after anodizing, the color has to be put in before the sealer, and that's why it should be stripped before being redone
