I picked up a Dell U2713HM (i believe it was) factory reconditioned direct from them for about $399.
IQ is fantastic, build quality is a great, and I would probably pay full price if I were to buy another.

I thought about some of the imported 1440p monitors, but I was too concerned with the quality control, back light bleed, and horrific calibration.

Thanks much, reviews look solid, I snagged it for $600.

Can anyone recommend the best option for lens filters in regards to durability and clarity for paintball?

I personally have seen more harm done with the use of them. One time a fellow photographer here was using one and he was hit and the filter broke scratching his 70-200 2.8. Of course that's what insurance is for but personally I just stay away from them.

Any lens filter can and will eventually break, but the higher quality ones will be better on IQ and less likely to break. I use a Hoya HD that costs quite a bit more than a bottom tier filter, but it's less likely to shatter from paintball or anything else, less likely to scratch from day-to-day stuff, and has no noticeable impact on sharpness. That said, your best option is to be aware of your surroundings and not get hit in the lens. In the past three years, I've had a direct front element shot maybe three times and an in-the-hood about five. For me the filter isn't for paintball impact protection, it's for keeping out the stain-prone tournament paint and sand and whatever else from the lens.

The other question you want to ask when taking about filters is... Would you prefer to wipe a filter down 10 times in a day or would you prefer to wipe down your prime? I choose filter everytime and shark is right, Hoya is expensive as buggery but the build quality is fantastic and my 70-200 took a direct hit to the centre of the Hoya from about 4ft away and not a problem

How to darken overexposed background but keep the foreground the same? I shoot in raw and have the Nikon NX-D editing software. Can't seem to figure out the anchor points for brightness editing. Anyone have any insight?

Looking for a new lens. I currently have:

-50mm 1.8
-55-250mm basic telephoto
-18-55 kit lens

Looking for something sharper than the 18-55 kit, in the $550~ price range (can go over by a little). Obvious choice is the Canon 17-55mm f2.8 but I think it's just a bit out of my price range...unless you can convince me to go for it. Other options I've considered are the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 (supposed to be damn close in image quality to the 17-55), Canon 15-85 f3.5-5.6, or Sigma 17-50 f2.8. Any other good options? (Not a fan of Tamron, previous experience left a bad taste in my mouth) And I don't mind new vs. used.

Also to note, I will be picking up a 70-200mm in the future, if I stay under budget I may be able to do both sooner rather than later.

This will be on a Canon 60D body I'm also picking up in the next week or so. (I've saved up a bunch and sold old gear, finally time to upgrade!)

What are you upgrading from to get to the 60D? Looking at the specs, I'm not seeing any difference from something like a T3i except for a slight frame rate bump. Whatever you're spending to upgrade the body would be better spent on glass that makes a much bigger difference.

A 40D I bought used to learn with, a friend is giving me an awesome deal on the 60D. The main reason I wanted it was for video, flip screen, and it's just about brand new. And after selling the 40D I'm paying less than $100

Normally I would completely agree, glass > body almost every time.

Best advice I can give you is search what you have on ebay. Then check the "sold listings" box on the left side and see what they've really been selling for recently.

Been almost a decade since I got my 350D and it's still running strong, but been tossing around the idea of "upgrading" to something like a 50D as BH has one for under $450 in great condition. Don't really have the money for anything brand new. Thoughts?
