Damn good deal for $175. I like mine, and have gotten some pretty good pictures out of it, wish I had some better glass but it is what it is. Planning on a d200 or d300 sometime this summer and retiring the d70 to the backup.

I'm making my lighting setup. I pretty much have everything (stands, umbrella's, flashes, etc) except the background. I was at B&H and they're more then i'd like to spend at the moment. Any cost efficient backgrounds or anything I can use for a background? Thanks.

Amazon normally has rolls of white seamless paper used for printing that will work.

get a white mac book. Whatever you get, make sure its a mac, a pc laptop for that price is completely useless for photo shop or any photo editing. Sorry, its the truth. Value and PC go together like non believers and the catholic church during the crusades.

i agree, even spec to spec, if they are equal, the macbook will more likely perform better, and i've spent plenty enough on both...

And I need to grab a light meter soon as well. Much variation between them?

I am buying a new lense. The decision is between the:

EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM

and

EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

Which do you guys suggest?
my main subjects are
-night time city
-time lapse
-time exposure
-lots of low light video
-strobe
-carry around photography on adventures

Thank you for any input.

Its kind of obvious as to which one better suites your needs. If your looking to do a lot of low light shooting(Video or picture) the 2.8 aperture is going to help you big time. IS is not something i would substitute over a larger aperture. The major thing IS would help you in is to keep your video smooth with less shake. If you shoot video on a tripod then IS isn't much help.

24-70 for sure. the 2.8 aperture will save you! the F4 is stupid, and that extra 35mm is pointless

i like the focal length of the 24-105 but since its f/4 it turns me away from ever wanting that lens

The T2i feels more like a toy in the hands. The 40d has a much better build quality. I believe the t2i has better noise performance..... I would get a 40d if i shot canon.

that's where you need a slow shutter speed. lol. Sounds backwards eh?

To get lighting you need like...1sec-5sec shutterspeed and the light is so fast/bright that the sensor picks it up and the rest of the frame is filled in with ambient light. (I could be wrong on the times, but I think memory serves me right)

So during a lightnings storm you need to go out...get about a 5" shutter speed and then just keep taking photos one after another until you catch something.

alright thank you, im going with the 40D. I just like the sound of the stronger build, and yes accidents do happen, just like the owner has had one with it but it works perfectly fine. And if it gets shot or somthing while im out on the field i know it would hold up better.
