When taking paintball photos how do you protect your camera from getting shot in the body/lens?

The first step is to avoid lanes/areas where you know you'll get shot, basically know your way around the sidelines. Additionally, from what I gather, most of the photogs here just put sweatbands around the body of the lens to keep paint from getting into the hard to reach crevices of the body of the lens. For the front element of the lens, bring a cloth to clean it. The glass is strong enough to withstand an impact from a paintball.

I have heard conflicting things on filters, as filters may break from impact and the broken glass from the filter could scratch the glass of the lens itself. Basically, do your best not to get shot, and if you do you should make it out alright. Others are welcome to chime in if I'm wrong/they disagree.

i always just wrapped everything in a towel. Also be careful when wiping the front off if there is dirt on there because you could scratch the lens with the grit. You will also need some sort of lens cleaning solution to get the oil from the paint off the front element in the event you do get shot in the lens. You could also get a commercially produced rain cover and use that to protect the camera, either way works fine. But as said above, the biggest thing is to just be aware of the game and where you are on the field and avoid firing lanes.

I'm having trouble seeing the entire frame through the viewfinder when I have my mask on. Is there anything I can buy to help (viewfinder extenders, etc.), any tips, or does it become easier with more experience.

Any help is appreciated.

I have a canon rebel xs. Nothing too fancy, just getting started, but it is kind of bugging me that I can't see everything I am shooting.

its the mask and as far as I know there isnt much you can do about it. Just get in the habit of shooting a bit looser and then crop after

The Canons do have a viewfinder extender that helps a bit. They are about $15-$20 online. They do help a bit but as Badboy suggested shoot a little wider until you get used to the mask interfering. The model numbers are EP-EX15 and EP-EX15 II. Double check which model is for your camera before ordering.

What do you guys use as carry bags? I've never been a big messenger bag guy, so a backpack would probably be better. I like the lowerpro Photo Sport but don't know if its worth the $150. I also noticed it says it doesn't carry a zoom, which might be a problem with me picking up a 70-200 or 70-400 pretty soon. Anyone have anything they recommend? I currently have a 50 mm f1.7 and a 70-210 f4.

I used the LowePro Computrekker Plus AW and loved it, although that might be a little big for your purposes. Kind of depends, but it was well worth the money.

I like Lowepro because of the quick side pocket on the side. Seems functional. And they seem to be fantastically built. The computrekker is a little overkill, I'd say. Don't need to carry 5 lenses and 2 cameras.

Love my Kata too however I really like a sling type bag if I'm just out and about with 1 camera + lense. I can even do 2 cameras/lens packed away in a Lowepro passport.

I like it a lot http://www.amazon.com/Lowepro-Passpo...5632794&sr=8-6

I thought I needed a backpack, so I originally bought a Tenba medium Shootout, which I rarely ever use now. Found a shoulder bag works much better for me when I picked up a Retrospective 10. When I switched from a couple of zooms to multiple primes I rapidly outgrew the 10 and bought a Retro 30, which is my current primary bag.

When I'm in the field and needing to be highly mobile, I have a Think Tank modular belt kit that will hold nearly everything I need for a shoot, and then some if necessary.
