Question for greg/jay/whoever

Which developer do you use for your ektar 100? Wondering if I should look into anything other than the standard kodak flexicolor

Shooting a wedding for a family member later this month, but still getting paid a good amount and really want to use this chance to build my portfolio. I'm Considering renting gear for it.

I have:
5dmkII
20d
70-200 f/4
50 1.8
28 1.8
An old vivitar flash that takes about 5 seconds to recoup after each flash.

I was thinking about either renting a 580 flash with possibly a ringlight, or do you guys think faster glass like the 35 1.4L would be better? Ceremony is indoors.

Depending on the religion/person in charge, you might not be able to use flash during the actual wedding.

I wouldn't want a flash going off during my wedding.

I'd rent an 85 f/1.2 and crank up the ISO.

or, you might run into a scenario where you aren't able to take photos during the ceremony :/. I had to do that once and had to be sneaky about it. lol I worked something out but the family didn't know anything about the rule until we all showed up.

It really just depends. I'd go for all ambient just to be sure.

Sounds like no flash is the way to go. They're a young kinda punk-ish couple that aren't really religious anyway, so I don't think photographing the ceremony will be a problem.

Do you guys think the 85's the best choice? I love the look the 35 produces but I do already have a 28 and 50...

Yeah, I'll pay for the rental myself if you're not satisfied with it haha. 85L on the 5D mkII is so much sex.

The 20d and the 70-200 are gonna be pretty useless becuase it will be dark and you really dont want noise.

I would rent another 5d2, and a longer prime like a 135L or 85L and then throw the 28 on your 5d. It just depends how much you want to spend on rentals, but grabbing a flash too might not be the worst idea in the world either. Ive shot a wedding with zooms before, but if I was doing primes I would want the 35L and the 135L with a 50 or 85 in my pocket. With such large apertures you really wont even need a flash unless you want it for fill, in which case you should try and balance the flash color to the lighting in the room or itwill look kinda funky.

I've got two gray cards in my bag but I rarely use them. I use a preset, then fine tune it in post since I only shoot raw. I prefer a consistent baseline across a set rather than the randomness of AWB.

I use auto and just fine tune in LR, but I do hate the randomness of AWB at times.
