The last bulk purchase I made and sold to a PB team (they bought around 14 cases) worked out far less than the scary $5.00 mark.

Not sure if pricing has moved since my last bulk order, so not sure what I would have to sell them at the next time around.

So, the good news is that it appears that the Nerf Mini Vortex is not dead yet, but will be re-branded. Which, considering my vendor sells out in a few days, it is not surprising that the product will continue. I usually have to wait for 6 or so weeks if I am slow on the draw because they sell out so darn fast, and I am not into speculative purchases.
I know exactly where you get yours. hopefully they stock them again somehow

Haz-Mat,
List prices for the two types are $4.99 for the regular ones, and $7.49 for the NFL versions.
The NFL versions COST more than twice as much as the regular version, so even at my wholesale cost, they're like chopping onions, it just brings tears to your eyes.

I got the list price from Hasbro. The NFL Vortex Mega Howler are listed as $9.99. I've seen the non-Howler NFL Vortex in Walmart last year for $4.99.
http://www.hasbro.com/shop/details.c...323&src=endeca

But than the normal one is listed at $2.99 on their site. Which we know that's not the normal going price for them.

This is the Mega Howler NFL Vortex.

OK, so I should say that the "Recommended Retail Price" per my wholesaler is:

If you can get them for $3.00 each, great. After you figure in shipping and such it is still a pretty tolerable deal. 20 nerfs is about like a case of paint, and I don't think the rigs I crewed shot that many in a full day of scenario play. I think socoj2 told me we recover about 30% to 50% of shots fired, and can re-use about half of them. So 20 nerfs works out to about 25 or so shots.

The Mega Howler is not a 2inch foot ball, its a good bit bigger.

And they may suggest $4.99 for the NFL ones but good ole Wally World was selling them for $8 when I first saw them a year ago... I like the Packers but I wasnt paying that much to shoot them out of a canon. I thought they would be novel, but I knew I woudnt get tme back and they are just too much for me to buy.

Fins looks too thin. Scenario Dream use that type of fins and that was the first thing that went out on them. Nerf also has some new ones that have the thin fins and we had the same issue with them.

I have no issues with thin fins. My findings on a Nerf with the tail shaft broken out and two streamers added were exceptable results. So if the fins come off after the first shot, streamers are easy to do. A little crazy glue and you are good.

Just have to see what the cost are. Has to be a bulk order by the looks of it, 100 plus. Which is fine. Its the shipping cost that is a concern.

Anyway, I'll let you guys know what I find if I can get some ordered and play around with them.

They'd probably last longer if the velocity was turned down just a little. I mean do people really use the full range of their launcher? All the shots I've seen at our field have been less than 50 yards or so apart. Then again we're mostly in the woods and long shots don't happen often. If I'm reffing I do make an effort to track the rocket and give it back to the owner later due to the price of these things. Haven't seen any broken ones yet.

I imagine the rubber in a tennis ball would hurt like a mother if someone got in the way. Stress balls would probably knock a window from a homemade tank. Ha. Hopefully these will be produced again and remain just as reliable.

The FREE sample stress balls I got are the same density and type of foam the Nerfs are made out of and almost identical in total weight. Being a larger diameter than 2" the drag coefficient would be higher and thus lose velocity quicker than a Nerf.

It should be an easy replacement to persuade Producers to use since the mass and density are the same as a Nerf.

I had another thought today and got the idea from more old Nerf toys. (I had a lot of 'em.) Instead of finding rockets that fit inside the barrel, what if the launchers were treated like the bow and arrow where the ammo fits on the outside of the barrel? Not that finding foam that big would be much easier unless pool noodles have open centers.

If built properly I'm sure the 'arrow rockets' would fly pretty well. Since the foam floats it won't be too heavy, and just add a bit of weight in the front with fins running the length of the ammo. The only issue being that some launchers would need to be tweaked, either with smoother barrels, less outside obstructions, or whatever. Slightly clunky, large ammo is better than none at all or using expensive rockets that fall apart after one shot.

Yep, swung by Family Dollar and they have discontinued selling the Nerf Rockets.

Glad ALL my RPGs and Cannons are set up on 1" pipe nipples for interchangable barrels.

Some R&D using those stress balls is in my near future.

I got some of those in 2 inch. they fit a pvc or jcs barrel perfect. but that weigh almost nothing compared to a nerf. i think a nerf is 1.1 oz or something. the 2 inch stress ball is.04 oz as i recall

The ones i got were foam and almost exactly the same foam as the nerfs

they would be fine for an a/t guy to keep a bunch in his pocket. they are cheap lless than a buck each. but with such little weight they wont fly nearly as far as a nerf

Some rockets found!

I found some Nerf rockets at a local Martins Food Store. Martins is also owned by Giant. So perhaps everyone check at these stores in their toys or seasonal sections. They were still at the price of $2.99.

So are nerf rockets discontinued? This whole conversation has confused me from not discontinued to discontinued.

They are not officially listed on Nerf's site as discontinued. But they ceased making new ones that aren't labled with a sports team on them. Most distributors have run dry of the basic Nerfs that cost the least. There was news that Nerf is going to start production back up at some point. We've been keeping our fingers crossed since.
