Interest in a drop in mechanical Ion kit?

Is there any interest in a drop in mechanical Ion conversion kit including all pieces needed to make a mechanical Ion with no cutting, drilling, or tapping required for installation? What would a reasonable price be for such a kit?

Thanks

does it come with a BOB ?
What are the parts? (qev, hoses, 3way, bolt with 2 o-rings at the end) ?

If it's cheap then I would be interested.

I think price really depends on how much you've paid to gather the parts, write the instructions, etc. and what you want your profit margins to be. I'm not sure what your cost is, so I'm not sure exactly what would be fair.

I wouldn't put any money into trying to sell parts for ions... It's such a small market. Paintball is dying, don't get into that business.

Srsly? Why are so many people convinced paintball is dying? Come visit my local field, it's busy every weekend. And plenty people still have Ions, otherwise this sub-forum would be dead.

yoda, i'm interested in one, especially as a drop-in kit. Seeing as the kit would be quite the transformation, i'd imagine the cost could be pretty high, relatively. Heck, if manufacturers can sell pump kits for $50+, you can sell a mech ion kit for more.

I know how to determine what I think a fair price would be relative to what my costs and hopeful profit margins are, but it is pointless to pursue if the potential clientele do not agree that it is a fair price. My closed bolt Ion conversions for example - I had been told by a number of people what a fair price was, sadly before the economy tanked, and I ended up lowering the price to get them out the door because current market demands did not equal hopes or prior (outdated) information.

The mechanical conversion kits would not include anything to make it BOB, simply a pure mechanical conversion that could be used in classic Ions and XE compatible bodies. It would have a bolt with dual tail o-rings, required fittings and tubing, and a trigger valve that utilizes existing frame features to mount instead of having to drill and tap holes for set screws. Not sure on the QEV, that might be an optional but highly recommended component as a lot of people already own one. No cutting or any other modifications needed.

Paintball isn't dying - it is simply regressing back to a more stable size similarly to the dot com bubble bust several years ago. Nobody said the internet was dying, but people did realize that they had radically over-expanded and started acting realistically again.

To be honest the conversion based on parts alone would be pretty expensive and would only sell to enthusiest who want to give it a go. What that essentially means is that the individuals who are interested in doing said conversion have the knowledge time and skill to perform conversion.

I considered doing this when i converted my gun but realized the cost of parts alone were around $50 - $60. I figured to make this commitment I would need to make 20 -30 bucks on each kit until volume picked up. Donno tho. But mine is a drop in kit =D

These kits would naturally be ready to go with the best parts for the price.
Alone, the parts are pretty expensive as a few of your know. I'm still trying to work on getting the cost even lower...

If the cost for materials is similar to Syph's estimate, add shipping & the cost just for your time, are we looking at ~$100 per kit?

Somewhat off-topic, but how many steps beyond this conversion would result in a pump ion?

The costs should be quite a bit lower than what his estimate was, just not sure how much lower.

Pump Ion is, in essence, simply adding an additional valve that charges the front area of the bolt when you pump it, and pulling the trigger dumps the front allowing the bolt to move. The pump valve is the air source for the trigger valve preventing it from just being a mech semi.

A drop-in pump kit is more enticing, personally, but i assume that'd be at least double the cost & materials of just a mech kit.

In any case, the mech kit alone is still of high interest to me. I play more recball nowadays, and most of the time i don't really care to use an electro, but i also don't want a pile of guns all over the house (although it's too late for that, really).

You post on mcb? I imagine the interest to be much higher there.

Yes, a pump kit would be significantly more as it is both double the parts and it involves making parts that are beyond the reaches of my current tooling.

I had been meaning to cross post this on MCB and kept forgetting, I just did though.

Just ordered a ton of parts for the kits
I am still trying to source the ion bolts needed to keep the costs low. :/
