Thread of the Week: Team Captain
Sort of going with the current theme:
If you were starting a brand new team and could select any one player in NE to be the first player on the team, the captain, the cornerstone of everything you wanted to build, who would that one player be.
And, just to mix it up, give your top three choices.

That's an easy choice - Nick
Why -
calm under pressure
can read a field
great field sense while on the field
can motivate the troops
adjusts quickly
helps keep me calm (ok - not calm - but calmer)
oh yeah - and he can play paintball

I am going to answer this one, even though I do tend to try to stay out of these.
However, in so answering, I am going to limit myself to active players and I am going to disqualify current and former Hurricanes.
My first two choices are:
1. Nick from 187. He's a good player who sees the field well and who can read fields and game plan. He has the presence to command (I don't know if he has the aptitude or inclination, but he has the presence). I think you could build a team around him and I think you could give him the keys to the car.
2. Alfred from LIFT. Again, a very good player who you could build a team around. I simply don’t know how strong he is with the X’s and O’s of paintball, but I know Alfred has as much heart as anyone else playing today and that is infectious. And Alfred is driven.
After those two the list becomes a bit murkier.
I like Gabe from Bloodline. He is professional, organized and committed. Lots of teams fall apart because they don’t have someone willing (and able) to do the grunt work of organizing practices and making sure everyone knows what is going on. It takes personal sacrifice as well as organizational acumen.
I like Fogarty from TNN for the same reason (although I’m told he is no longer the one calling the shots for the team. Is that accurate?).
I am forgetting someone. When I remember who, I’ll edit this post. Unless I forget that, too.

Honestly, if he was a couple years older, Ian Gardner. The kid has great field awareness, tons of drive, perfect amount of confidence, not afraid to speak up and voice his opinion. All he needs is a year or two more to mature a bit more.

Paintball is a fast moving form of chess with more angles. I hope other teams in New England can figure that out sooner than later.

I think Mike Koker from Identity. To me what makes a great Captain is Trust... You can have the best player in the world but if people dont trust or like him, it does not matter how well he does other things he will not be a good leader.
Mike I feel is someone who has all these and is someone that would lead a team into battle and they would be right behind him....

Dan Zaleski- was captain of TNN in 09 and the beginning of '10, i think he had the right stuff, having that combo of being a good player and a leader
Billy- naturally, he's been around the block, I personally would trust a captain more that's been pro and done everything in between.
Benny- amidst the hockey cliches he seems extremely motivated, someone that would fire up and inspire his players
my 3 picks
