So I have played roller hockey for a couple summers now, very un-legit like though, just a stick and skates. There is a rink by my house so I wanted to try ice hockey and I come to figure out that they have learn to play adult ice hockey classes(I'm 18) on friday nights. So I go to the rink and sign up and I come to realize that the 'learn to play' classes require you to have full gear. Is that normal? I was kind of mad at this because now the only way I can play ice hockey is if I spend $100s of dollars to get gear. How did you guys start?

I've got bauer vapor pro's and they're pretty good so far..only thing I don't like is the palms. They're starting to wear pretty fast..think I might get some custom warrior franchises next.

the only expensive thing really is the skates. you can get everything else for like $100 max. the lower end bauer knee/elbow pads only cost like $20 each, then maybe $25--$30 for shoulder pads. The helmet can be around $30 also. You can rent skates until you get the cash to buy some.

Elitist douchebag because he said roller is gay? Which it is... People who take roller hockey seriously are usually people that can't actually skate.

Perhaps some people don't have access to ice rinks?
And it's a little easier to organize a pickup game with friends in roller hockey than it is ice.

nah it's a lot easier to pay for ice time and drive to the rink and have everyone else do so to get pick up. walking to the roller rink and playing for free with just a stick and skates isn't hockey, nor is it more convenient.

If you play roller, you don't tell people you play hockey. It's like the difference between men's basketball and women's basketball.
