Thoughts on this series?

Not sure if this exactly the right place for this...
Anyway, I thought I'd get some international thoughts on the format of a new tournament series that's started up here in New Zealand.

Southern Series Trilogy: http://www.facebook.com/#!/CombatZoneDunedin

Format as follows:
NPPL 5Man rules
Premlims=Double Round Robin. (usually 12 teams)
After Round robin, top 4 go to Div 1 finals.
Next four to Div 2 finals
Bottom 4 round robin (Again).
Finals are best of 3.

Now here's the thing, finals do NOT matter for series points. Points only come from Round robin games (prelims). Doesn't this make the finals... Pointless? Thoughts?

Tournament paintball in NZ is tiny. (National pop. only 4+million ) And has been pretty non existent for some years, so I am for any thing that gets us playing again. But this format bugs me...

What's RR? If this is your only option, play an event and see how it goes. If you don't like it, just don't play it again.

Sorry, RR = Round robin. As for options, sadly there aren't many My concern isn't with the events themselves (by all accounts they are well run), but in how the series points are tallied.
Example: In the first event my brothers team left the prelims in 4th place, but went on to win the whole thing. Because the finals don't matter for the series points though, they ended up 4th on the series table.
You win the event... But it means nothing really. How you play in the prelims matters more. Is it just me that finds this odd? As one of the series creators told me, winning the event is just for 'chicks and bragging rights'.

That's extremely unusual but if that's their rules, you have to play through it.

Thanks for your input. I politely queried their approach to points on the nz forums, and was simply told to 'accept what is written'. Also this: 'its the best way' (for paintball I assume).

If that's what they're saying, I wouldn't expect a change anytime soon. Play each prelim game like it's the finals.
