What is xball?
I see some tourneys are race to 2 or 5 or 7 or whatever and I know that means the first 5 man team to win that number of games wins. What is xball? I saw a tournament that said race to 4 xball. What does xball mean? thanx

Xball usually refers to a tournament played with PSP rules. 5 players per team on the field, ramping, multiple games make a match. Old style Xball was a match played between 2 teams. The entire match lasted 1 hour, split into 2 halves (half hour each). You try to win as many games as possiblw within the time. Team with the most points (wins) wins the match. There are also time penalties that can be given to teams/players that make a player have to sit for a cetain time (usually 2 minutes) and they can rejoin the game after those 2 minutes (even in the middle of play). If you want to see how this format is done, try to find videos of the old NXL.

during a match - under PSP rules - can a player be substituted for another player on his/her team should he become unable to continue for some reason?

Anyone on the roster can play any point.

It is a style of play that is designed to use an absurd amount of paint. It can be played in a Race-To or Timed (NCPA uses 2 ten minute periods) mode.

Xball is the older name for what is now the race-to format. Original Xball was played in the same manner, but instead of racing to a number of points, teams would score as many points as possible in a certain time. The time limit, and whether or not there was a half-time, depend on the rendition of Xball from year-to-year.
If there's a tournament that is playing "race-to-4 Xball," they're playing what is now called the race-to-4 format, but used to be called Xball. It is no different from PSP's race-to-4, unless rule/format differences are specified..

really did you ever play x-ball
it no longer truly exists under the name x-ball because i believe the man that owns the name is no longer directly involved with the psp

Yes, but it must happen during the 2 minute break between points. It's not like baseball where you can put in a pinch runner in the middle of an inning. Most teams have ~10 players on the roster. You can field any combination of rostered players for any given point - you are not required to stick to specific lines.

Yes. I blew through two cases in one full 50-min match.

Full Xball is:
50 minute match 2-25 minute halves
15.4 bps
2 and 5 minute penalty's
cxbl up north and uspa here in the states. truly my favorite format. PAINTBALL FTW!
Yes you shoot alot of paint. I ran a full xball team in 2006 and 2007 in the former axbl and our average cases per match was 15 to 17. and that was with a 15 player roster.
I hope all of the posts help and gl in 2011 to everyone!

you do shoot lots of paint in xball. but i remember a game in 7man where i dropped three pods on one lane, that was my job. it was super boring..... and felt like a waste.
i have way more fun playing xball than i do playing 7man.
xball is fast paced and methodical. 7man is a chess match.
