yes hair and sandana and anything not harder than your skin covered skull will increase breaks. If it can soften the impact, it can increase breaks. I imagine certain hair styles will soften it better than others. If a ball has a break at X FPS on your skull, then thick hair might increase it by 2 or 3 fps, not much, but it does help.

Definitely adds to the bounce factor. Earlier this season I had some decently fat, bouncy dreads, and took many, many bounces off them. However, i actually ended up cutting them, mainly because of paintball. They drastically increased my profile, as they would not only hang/swing around, but expand the size of my mask too, especially with other headgear on. Also, they were waaaaay to hot, and just plain annoying when playing. Although they looked pretty badass
Now i realize the topic isn't about dreads specifically, but all the same things apply. Depends on your preference really, but IMO, not worth it for paintball alone.
<<<For example, check out my giant mug there, see what i mean? Just rock a couple headbands/wraps/beanie for bounce.

hair in fact does help with bounces think about it.
It also helps to hide hits
Not that you should be trying to hide hits or anything though

Damn straight hair helps. Have you seen the run-throughs Ryan Moorehead pulls off? How 'bout the one at cup where he got himself a 4-pack directly after the intial breakout.
It's his hair. That's how he does it.

This. I let mine grow out a fair bit (for me at least) and once it started to get wavy/curly and generally a mess, it ate paint. The only way to figure out whether or not a shot up there had broken was pretty much a deep-scalp massage. I'm not sure very many refs are committed to that course of action mid-game.
I always had great luck catching bounces with a baseball cap turned backwards that fit a bit loose. It'd take the hit, the cap would scrunch up and dissipate the ball's energy, the ball would bounce and I would continue on my way. Sadly, I had to replace that hat, and the new version hasn't been anywhere near as lucky / bouncy.

Ya, i never cover my hair. It's so hard to tell if a hit on the head is old or not. "Nah ref, that's old, i tried to get it out". ****'s real.

I've gotten bounces on my head when I had my long hair. But not since I shaved my head. Weird lol.
