NCPA Class A Champs - The Rules

The majority of the webcast will be of the Class A Tournament. Here's how it works:

Matches:

Each match is two 10-minute, stop-clock halves. Teams start on the same side of the field for the duration of the first half, then switch. When a point ends, either by hanging the flag, a team conceding, or all the players on the field being eliminated, there is a 2-minute timeout where the game clock is stopped, then another point starts.

Game rules are the same as PSP RaceTo-7 rules. 2-minute major penalties and 1-minute minor penalties where the penalized player must remain in the penalty box for the duration of the penalty. If a team with a player serving a minor penalty loses a point, one of their players comes out of the penalty box.

Tournament Structure:

15 teams played during the regular season in 4 conferences, and 13 of them are attending the National Championships. An additional 6 teams are also attending.

Friday is the Open Tournament, where all teams play 3 matches. Saturday starts a single-elimination playoffs with 12 teams. At the end of Friday play, the top 2 teams in each conference based on their season record advance to the playoffs, with each conference champion getting a bye to the second round.

Of the remaining 11 teams, any team with at least 2 wins on Friday will be eligible to play off for the remaining 4 spots in the playoffs. If there are less than 4 teams remaining with 2 wins, the one-win team(s) with the best Friday record will advance. If there are more than 4 teams remaining with 2 wins, the 4th place team will defend their playoff spot against the 5th place team, and if necessary, the 3rd place team will defend their spot against the 6th place team.

Once the 12 teams are determined, teams will play out a single-elimination bracket, with the ochofinals Saturday morning, quarterfinals Saturday afternoon, semifinals Sunday morning, and finals Sunday afternoon.

Chris, thanks for clarifying how the tournament is structured. Good info for home viewers and for the teams themselves.
