How To Keep Your Paint Cool

So, it's a pretty common occurrence for temperatures to soar and paint gets bouncy. I have yet to find a cheap, effective way to keep this from happening. Any suggestions?

You could try a large cooler with a layer of bagged ice, then toss a towel on top of it and put the paint in the cooler. I'd rotate the bags of paint around so not just half of the paint is exposed to direct cold. Maybe leave gaps in the ends of the towel so the ice can keep the cooler cold, but not apply direct cold to the paint itself?

Interesting theory. I was thinking maybe a cooler filled with sand, and you just put the bags of paint under the sand. But your idea sounds good too.

I think the pressure from the sand would cause the paint to dimple. Especially since paint will dimple from its own weight if you let it sit in the same position for too long. If it was brittle paint then maybe even crack.

I've heard of people refrigerating their paint then putting it in a cooler and leaving it like that in the shade and it worked, but I don't know how long that would work in ATL weather. Maybe just refrigerate the paint, then put it in a cooler with two ice packs on the ends- again not touching the paint directly. Should work. I would make sure you're not refrigerating the paint too cold though. You'd probably get condensation which would cause paint to swell or stick together in your hopper if it was like 85+ out.

most people I've seen use a bag of ice in a cheapo cooler.
