Is the axe really different?

I've been lookng into getting an axe, but I'm really afraid that if I buy one all I will get is a big mini. Can anyone who has shot both confirm or deny that the axe is a much better gun? I appreciate any input!

they are both great guns. you need to try them both out yourself and decide which one feels better in your hands, and decide whether you want to spring for the higher cost of entry of the axe.

There have been countless posts of this same question in the last few weeks. I suggest people start using the search engine or we make a FAQ/sticky.

Thx. I guess the only real difference other than he Asa is a larger body and volume of air. I'm not thinking that would make it a competitor for the etek n such. Thanks again.

Bpaul, how long have you been playing paintball? A beginner will not notice/appreciate the differences between the Mini and the Axe. I own a Mini and have shot an Axe. The Axe is definitely smoother. But at this point having a smooth gun does not help me play better. So I'll stick with my Mini for now.

Shoot one before you make claims like this. It's a very smooth firing and accurate gun. Plus it's much quieter than the stacked poppets... I was unsure if I wanted one, but I shot one and the rest is history.

chose mine after playing with an Etek 3 and a DP FX. for a weekend each. Just smoother all around. and the Axe I played with was the only one still stock.

I have an axe and a mini although they are quite similar, the axe gets better efficiency, feels nicer in the hands (in my opinion), and has way less kick. Plus has better features then the mini like the on/off Asa but it's really up to you what you like more.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not questioning the guns performance, if fact what you said kind of makes me want the gun even more

Other than a barrel, yes. Right out of the box, used mine for the first time today, was amazing for what I paid!

Stock out of box the Axe shoots like a champ. No upgrades are really needed however if you want, a bolt upgrade either Boss or Eigen would make a pretty big difference in the gun. BUT I'll say it again straight out of the box the gun shoots really well.

I would agree...it should have come with a good 14" two-piece .689 bore barrel.

You know before I used mine I was considering an aftermarket bolt but honestly, after shooting it I don't see the point to it. Unless you just wanna get more out of your air, that is probably the reasoning behind a new bolt. Personally I thought mine shot like a camp, I'm not gonna play with the internals too much.

I agree the gun is great out of the box, but with an aftermarket bolt the thing is just crazy smooth and quiet. This was with a boss bolt, 160 psi, dwell 18 blinks and yellow spring. Havent tried my lurker yet but heard great things about that too

It's definitely a preference thing. I love my Axe stock, but I got the Lurker to lose some of the kick and make it quieter. I shot a spool valve before this, so I like my guns quiet.
