Most officers (at least on the OCS side) don't get a contract, as Carson19 said. A few OCs get guaranteed flight (we only had 1 of 44 in my OCS class), though prior flight experience doesn't guarantee you a slot in flight school, unless you're in the AVCAD, DC, or similar program. The Direct Commission folks will work in their chosen field (legal, engineering, intelligence, etc.), and only have to do the first 2 weeks of OCS before going to a more specialized school at CGA...they get back to the real world sooner.
There's no height requirement (unless you're a midget, I'm assuming), but you must fall within the published weight standards. You have to be 21-34, and if prior non-CG active duty, have <6 years AD time. Hit any of us up with any more questions you might have.

Is Coast Guardsmen a real world? Like how do you refer to yourselves? Not sailors, not soliders, but you're called ... ?

actually, the thadmiral changed it to guardians over 4 years ago. Then Sea Pappy changed us to coastguardsmen a couple month's ago. But we still refer to ourselves as coasties.

Stationed on the USCGC Morgenthau, and for those who say the coast guard doesn't do anything, on our last patrol, my boat busted 9 go fast vessels, arrested 15 narcotraffickers, seized 1 ton of cocaine, interdicted 10 immigrants all in a 72 day patrol. http://www.mojosail.com/2012/03/10/u...ns-to-alameda/

But, if it were to be an official document, members of the coast guard would be refered to as "Coastguardsmen?"
